He Actually Left His Heart with All of Us
Episode 296: Rumble with Michael Moore
Friends,
Twelve days after the passing of Tony Bennett, on this episode of my podcast I share my various personal encounters with this truly great American.
From the first time Tony and I met 33 years ago, to those nights we sat in attendance at the local grade school band concert, to his being there (along with Harry Belafonte) on the opening night of my Broadway show, I experienced the blessings of Tony Bennett in this life.
For years, Tony was an unofficial mentor to me, helping show me the way, standing for goodness and kindness, a source of wisdom on how to make it in this world.
Please listen to my tribute to this brilliant soul who meant a lot to many — and please share it with others.
— Mike

** In order to have a troll-free, hate-free comments section — and because if there’s one thing I know about my crazy haters, they would rather spend an eternity in hell with Marjorie Taylor Greene than send me $5 if forced to become a paid subscriber — my Comments section here on my Substack is limited to paid subscribers. But, not to worry — anyone can send me their comments, opinions and thoughts by writing to me at mike@michaelmoore.com. I read every one of them, though obviously I can’t respond to all. And every few weeks or so I share them publicly here on Substack and on my podcast so that your voice is heard by the multitudes in this wonderful community of readers and listeners. The solution here is not optimal but it has worked and my Comments section has become a great meeting place for people wanting to discuss the ideas and issues I raise here. There is debate and disagreement, but it is refreshing to have it done with respect and civility, unfettered by the stench of bigotry and Q-anon insanity.
He Actually Left His Heart with All of Us
Dear Michael,
Thank you for your wonderful story about Tony Bennett. I am a huge fan and have been since I was a kid. My family loved him. My dad toured for 14 years in show business during the nightclub era in a comedy trio known as The Nuts Brothers. He always joked that he was responsible for Tony Bennett's success because once when they were on the same bill, he told Tony he should wear a "sheitel". (That's a wig or a toupee.) Tony was bald on the top, and he started wearing one. And of course, he then became famous. My dad was very proud of his observation. Thanks again for your wonderful show - and I can't WAIT to see Barbie. Much love, Susan Goldberg
I enjoyed this podcast more than expected. People always have more to their story than meets the eye. Thanks.
