Thank you Michael! I did not know you had posted bail for Julian Assange! Before I checked me email today I said to myself : Julian is an f...ing HERO. About time he was released. Thank you so much for your post today. One of the many reasons I am a paid subscriber. Merci from France.
I’m skeptical of Assange because he helped Trump get elected in 2016 by publishing thousands of DNC private emails that served to help Putin as well as Trump.
that could be true for sure ! and I wonder if you use the same logic why Hillary and the DNC screwed over Bernie so ferociously we got stuck with the clown we call trump? Why is the Cheney & Bush SOB's not under investigation for so many deaths, so many wars? I blame that on Obama , he should have given the nod to his compardres to drag the twins through the mud.. Obama took a dive in his first mid term election to avoid any real chance of a progressive agenda succeeding .
its all a fix and we as voters are not in the mix!!!
Oh, Michael. How grateful I am to have such a source of honesty, clarity and enlightenment. I had not thought of Julian Assange for ages. His, yours, and those few like you are the voices that give hope for honor and decency in our world. Deidre
You are entitled to you opinion, and kudos to you for putting your money where your mouth is! That said, I don’t agree with your assertion that Julian
Assange was some sort of saint or martyr of the system. The fact is he published information that endangered people, and if you think, for even a second, that Assange was not paid handsomely for publishing Hilary Clinton and the DNC e-mails you are either naive or deluded,
There is that too, although, to be fair, at the time Michael helped post his baile he had not been charged with rape and sexual harassment, those charges came later. What I don’t buy is the notion that Julian Assange is up there with Daniel Ellsberg and others who have done a service to the American people.
Oh Michael—you remind me that there are good people, too…. But how is it possible this country continues on it’s course of committing such global mayhem, and always with such incredibly sociopathic and arrogant hypocrisy? Stay well…we need you!
Not with you on this one, Mike. Julian Assange became a Russian Agent in 2015. He collaborated with Roger Stone and the FSB agent Konstantin Kalimnik to leak emails hacked from the DMC. So, while he might have exposednthe wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, he helped Trump steal his first election. Firing squad or maybe a little jab of polonium is what he deserves, Certainly not praise.
My Grandmother used to say ,,, Who died and left you boss ? Which means that you don’t get to decide for your own if it efeccts the many, this is a good example of Assage not that the subject matter isn’t important, you spend more time worrying about this then the fact that the mere fact our Democracy is under attack and Trump could wim because of people yelling Free Palestinian not that it’s not a horror that needs to be addressed with the Fact that Benjamin N is a war monger wr Conan’s must alive this when Bidin wins ! You need urgently to work on this or under Trump your voise will be sllent for ever No Democracy it’s gone don’t be a fool Michel or we all will be wavering to each other in some Prison camp run by Trump
In the interest of TRUTH, and in honor of George Orwell, let us "forgive" all of those who are punished because they told the truth! Remember Eric Snowden? Is there any nation where it IS safe to tell the truth?
Julian Assange wasn’t a journalist, is his forgiveness. He had names released in those documents. Those names were mostly assassinated assets in Iraq and Afghanistan. Mr.Moore if your loved ones took a bullet for being an asset would you be so contrite; a real hero, is that what you want. Certainly, you’ve portrayed yourself gallant; it’s your second amendment right to pay for the release of Julian Assange, as much as either of you unknowingly pulled the trigger for every name released. That is why documents are redacted.
Your comment Mike about if only Wikileaks had existed 10 years ago,
" If a WikiLeaks had revealed at that time that there were, in fact, no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, do you think that the war would have been launched ?"
Yes, I learned that part of the "evidence" came from a masters thesis from (Berkeley or Stamford) that showed storage of non nuclear materials, probably on 60 Minutes. There WAS information that caused Obama and many other D Senators to vote against going to war in Iraq.
Michael, you are a national treasure, but Assange is not the hero you think that he is. By releasing unredacted documents, he risked the lives of many people. In the beginning, reporters from progressive media outlets worked with him, but left when they saw how reckless he was.
Michael, thank you for this post. I respect you and always rely on your insights to help me form my own thoughts about various issues. I usually already agree with you! In the case of Assange, I've been in a world of confusion ever since his arrest. At first, I was right there with you--he was a truth-teller and was being railroaded by our government. Yet, when rape charges arose, I, of course, had doubts--serious doubts--and became quite wary of supporting him. Our press, always unreliable, nevertheless helped feed my doubts, and until today, after reading your post, I was not particularly persuaded that he was wronged. Also, what happened to the rape allegations? Because I have so much confidence in your ability to cut through the noise, and to land on the right side of truth, I feel much more enlightened and have a clearer understanding of how to view Assange. Thank you as always for your courage and ongoing proof of standing tall for your beliefs (based on your research and principles). Your donation of $20,000 is no small thing. Just as you've always stood up against popular trends in the media or propaganda of every kind, you once again show me how it's done. Still my hero, Michael. Thank you again.
I was just finishing up Army boot camp when they announced the Vietnam ceasefire to an auditorium full of teenage soldiers, many of whom were sure to have wound up getting killed in that stupid war. I will never forget the cheers of joy. It is good to not kill people. It is good to not be killed. Yay!! None can deny the thrill of knowing your name will not appear on some memorial somewhere.
I always respect and admire people who work for peace. I respect and admire people who bring Truth to the world. Wars suck. Liars suck.
I don’t know why, exactly, but I tend to have more respect for Edward Snowden than either Chelsea Manning or Julian Assange. He was just more professional about it all. He knew he bringing a world of hurt upon himself, but the Truth was more important. I just don’t get that vibe from the other two.
Wars are always caused by assholes with too much power. This has always been the Truth.
Stop electing Assholes, America.
Hey, Selfish Corporate assholes: stop being selfish assholes.
Hey, assholes all over the world: wake the fuck up!
I am thankful, Michael. For your constant contribution to make this world a better place, where truth and justice are no empty words. I am thankful that at last Julian Assange is on his way home, where he belongs. The next 24 hours will show whether we can trust this deal, into which he probably has been pushed. But if that's the only way out, so be it. After all these years, following you, following this terrible case of injustice, I will feel relief and we can finally all move on. It's not over yet. There are still so many problems to solve and so many people who don't seem to care. That is why you, like Julian, are so necessary. Be blessed, and stay safe.

Without the lobbying for Joe Biden‘s support, Julian Assange would not be on his way to Australia as I write.
What a relief! And a delight.
Thank you for posting your piece from 2010, it puts a lot of clarity in a nutshell.
The reason I am a subscriber - greetings from an Irishwoman in Germany.

Thank you for the link. It was very informative and I’m always happy to learn something new.

Thank you Michael. In these darkest times, your humanity gives me courage. Love

and his idiots
I am sure Michael is able to work on more than one thing at once.
If you were a longtime follower of Michael Moore you would know you are preaching to the pulpit.
