Dear Nobel Peace Prize Organization,

I am writing to express my grave concern regarding the potential consideration of former President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. Given his involvement in attempting to overthrow the United States government and his numerous indictments for various crimes, awarding him such a prestigious honor would severely undermine the credibility of your organization.

I urge you to reconsider any nomination of Mr. Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Awarding Trump this prize would not only tarnish the reputation of the prize itself but also diminish the integrity and values it represents. Awarding someone with such a controversial and problematic background would be a disservice to the principles of peace and justice that the Nobel Peace Prize stands for.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Hitler was also nominated in 1939, so Fuhrer Trump would not be the first.

Of course, the Hitler and Trump nominations could not be taken seriously.

Simply being nominated is a very low bar.

It made a pretty good point that nobody bombs clowns ?

Who would bomb a clown ?

But Clown wanabee "geniuses" def. 'Bomb" at the box office.

I understand your concern, but anti-semitism is not contingent on any recent news. It won’t stop with the changes in policy. It might be exacerbated if the anti-semites feel they have succeeded in shaping policy. They may ask for more and more. It is ironic that there is more pro-Palestinian sentiment after the barbarism of Oct 7. Perhaps it is by being brutal that one proves their commitment and gains respect. (I’m asking. I don’t know the answer).

If only we could all be in the briefings that President Biden has been in and have all the extremely well informed brilliant people around us like he has. When President Biden goes to the microphone and gives us all that sound-bite, he has the burden of knowing that any more than that will open the door to so many questions and ideas that he will be drowned in a sea of other’s doubts and opinions. So he cannot tell you any more than a little of what he thinks he knows. But one thing is certain: the conflicts in the Middle East are some of the most complex conflicts the world has ever seen. The issues have taken thousands of years to develop. There are more lies than truths. The fertile crescent is not called that because it is desert. And the people who live there know that they are the only ones who can create peace and prosperity for their societies. Everyone in all of the Middle Eastern countries total only a couple hundred million, while the rest of the world that wants to be involved numbers almost 8 billion. Do the little countries of the Middle East really stand a chance of making a decision on their own with so many who have no clue what their real issues are want to help????? Can the rest of the world please just give them what they really need? Valium and no more weapons.

From an outsider’s perspective: Israel could do themselves a big favor by somehow demonstrating that they are not owned and operated by the Jewish faith. Being a sanctuary for people of that faith is one thing, but if Israel has no place to live for people of other faiths, then the jig is up. Wrong government, wrong philosophy, wrong leadership. Israel cannot survive.

I signed a petition and added a note expressing my shock and horror that our tax dollars are being used to carry out genocide. I said no “ally” was worth participating in such an immoral act. This is not how peace comes about. That money could better have been used to give Gaza the necessary food, housing, healthcare, etc. this is the way to peace. Where are his advisors?

But have you noticed how money given to Gaza has been spent in the past? Where did the money to build all those tunnels come from and the infrastructure for ventilation, ac, electricity, etc. the stored food supplies for their fighters.

Is there no outrage that Hamas invited this counterattack and did nothing to shelter the civilians. I am not an apologist for war, but let’s be realistic about who is to blame and who can stop it.

It seems that Hamas does not equal Palestinian people. Hamas seems to be a terrorist organization that hides behind the Palestinians. I don't think killing 10s of thousands of Palestinians is a solution. The common Palestinian, esp in Gaza, seems to have no value, based on the Israeli bombings and destruction. Take out Hamas, if possible, don't kill innocent people.

Tell me something?

Do you know how many times Israel has used Hamas before?

How is it that the supposedly most secure nation in the world allowed Hamas to get in.

Remember. Jordan and Egypt warned Israel about this.

Meanwhile the Israeli's were protesting against Netanyahu.

What would the US do in this situation............start a war perhaps?

Expand full comment

I'm not a historian, esp for the middle east. It is inexplicable how Hamas was able to do what they did. Look what USA did after 9/11 for example of what USA would do. USA cares about human rights but doesn't when it suits us. Long history with that.

Expand full comment

Israeli engineers built the tunnels- they said so.

And what exactly did you expect Hamas to shelter their citizens with? From 2000 pound bombs?

The Israeli government has broken international law. Period. This isn’t a conversation about Hamas. No one agrees with what Hamas did. The conversation is about our government’s complicity in Israel’s clear undeniable breach in humanitarian law. Our government is actively financially supporting a government clearly engaging in collective punishment. This isn’t a question of whether Israel should respond to Hamas, it’s a question of HOW they have responded. You can’t sniper a woman going to the bathroom hiding in a church. You can’t leave babies to rot in an incubator. It doesn’t matter how much you hate a terrorist group with the same ethnicity as those babies. It doesn’t matter what other unrelated adults from the same area with the same ethnicity did to you. You cannot just bomb them, sniper them, starve them.

Israel has weaponry to target - they targeted Hamas officials in the south of Lebanon without mass casualties. Military weaponry has lots of options besides unguided bombs. Stop excusing war crimes. I’ve only named two, there are hundreds of documented cases.

I disagree that the killing in Gaza is purely Biden's responsibility. He supported Israel but has supported help for the Palestinians. Are you aware of how vulnerable Israel is as a country of 9milliin surrounded by large expanses of Arabic land filled with 450 million Arab peoples. What Hamas did on 10/7/23 was psychopathic indicating no real ability to negotiate with Israel. Not that it was ok but the Allies killed 300000 civilians alone in Berlin to get the Nazis hiding in bunkers. Hanasis a real danger to the world if left unchecked. That is why the US has so much racism and kived thru the Jim Crow laws as we let all the confederate leaders to just return home. Hamas is funded in a line ftom Hezbollah, Iran and finally it serms Putin. How do you purpose to handle what Hamas did and how their goal is to kill all the Jews ultimately? Unfortunately Palestine was created by the British then collapsed by them. The British set up the State of Israel with the Palestinians given land in areas but no state. How can all of this hang on Biden when all of this is much more complicated? I usually agree with most of what you say but you are cutting off your nose to spite your face by blaming Biden for the killings in Gaza. It is too simplistic. You are feeding into MAGA hands and Hamas hands.

Expand full comment

You are right , the killing in Gaza is Netenyahu’s responsibility. But when our government sends weaponry and billions of funding to them, we are partially complicit. It is absolutely partly Biden’s responsibility when he choses to bypass Congress to send millions in weaponry. And his stance on Gaza is EXACTLY why he will lose the election. You CAN handle what Hamas did without starving a million people, without killing massive amounts of journalists and targeting their families, without leaving babies in incubators, without shooting clear marked ambulances. The excuse but Hamas hides everywhere is inexcusable at some point . Collective punishment is clearly against international law. We decided as a global nation that wars have boundaries too, and everyone has to be held to those standards. The US would hold any other country to them, they should hold their allies to that standard also.

Expand full comment

What Hamas did on 10/7 was absolutely nothing compared to the Israel's near total slaughter of Palestinians plus stealing their homes and land. BiBi is bulldozing Palestinian land to give to Israel's new settlements.

Expand full comment

Obama tried to defend the Palistinian and threatened Isreal not to build more settlements in the Gaza strip. But then t Rump comes in and acknowledged Isreal by saying he will put a new US embassy into Jerusalem, not understanding the political rift that it caused. There was a reason our embassy was where it was, it was in protest to Isreal.

Expand full comment

Also, about the history lesson - next time you share this opinion on history consider adjusting your take on racism. I disagree strongly with your simplistic interpretation of why we have racism. It sounds like you’re suggesting that maybe we should have killed or imprisoned everyone after the civil war South to avoid racism. I’m sure that’s not what you’re saying so consider different wording next time you share that. Also Biden didn’t have to create Israel to be partly complicit in what’s currently happening under his watch in Gaza. That’s crystal clear.

Also to get rid of terrorism - let’s use recent history as an example - did the Iraq war reduce extremism? (Remember there were no WMD so essentially a war for nothing) we got ISIS after Iraq. How about Afghanistan we really got rid of those terrorists by bombing their country - oh wait they run it now. We can learn lots of lessons from history , but our politicians are clearly not paying attention.

Expand full comment

Thank you for saying what I could not. Terror does not get eradicated by creating more terror. Racism doesn’t end by doing nothing about the behavior. Punishment is not effective if it results in resentment and vengeance. Killing 200,000 Iraqis after 9/11 only created 2,000,000 more terrorists. Just how stupid is US leadership, and that leadership is a whole lot more than just a President.

Analogy time: You don’t stop water from entering your basement by simply pumping it out. You need to give it someplace it will want to go other than your basement. The same is true for all the South Americans coming to the US and any other migrations of people throughout the world. If people are moving en mass, address the cause, don’t punish the people.

Again, thank you Nida Merchant. I always have a lengthy way of saying how much I agree.

I want to thank those of you who liked my statement. I can understand how Hamas took over as the Palestinians had no state and no government. The Palestinians felt they needed protection and perhaps order. It would be like having the Mafia takeover an area or what the Confederacy did to the South before and after the civil war. They promised some protection and rules for the White establishment. Biden was just supporting Israel after the atrocities by Hamas. No one knew the extent of Hamas' development in Gaza. I think blanketly blaming Biden in tge medua with one line statements is similar to how Trump infiltrates people's minds with his repeated one liners. We need to stand behind Biden to preserve our democracy, not blindly but with careful thought. We need to also not get pulled into the agist rhetoric that is too prevalent in the US. That is a weapon for the GOP yet they dont see the thinking problems that have been so obvious in the speeches of Trump. Try to get Congress to pass 1/4 of the amount of money they passed for wars for public education in this country…or for paid maternity leave, or for free VPK, or for improved roads literally anything that would improve our lives. Independent journalist Matt Taibbi is a true "for the people" democrat and he understands the corruption in this country. Does anyone on here read his stuff? Corporations /Bankers/Military Industrial Complex have taken over both the GOP and the Democrats. The people need to understand this by reading independent media and not mainstream media. I've been a liberal democrat my whole life. Our lives are being destroyed by the elite who are intentionally trying to destroy us by divide and conquer. Divide and conquer is a common technique that was used by the British to keep their colonies under their control (and other countries did the same divide and conquer technique). We did it to the Iraqis with the Shia and the Sunni's. We pumped up the less advantaged Shia who then attacked the Sunni as a way to control the country of Iraq. Now the democrats are being pumped up by corporations/military/CIA to attack the republicans in a divide and conquer strategy. The ultra rich control both political parites! And we fight amongst ourselves which keeps us from fighting the ultra rich. Does anyone else see this ?

And btw let’s not stop at the two party system failure, we live in a “failed state” QED and to make matters worse, the power to be is SCOTUS where Alito just today opined that the same-sex decision of the court is an infringement on religious bigots! WTF…what’s that definition of insanity again, Oh yes it’s the two party system and choosing the lesser of two evils! It’s time for change, sonehiw!

Don’t vote for the current best administration we’ve had in decades, and you’ll get a whole lot more of what you and I *both* think is criminal. I don’t disagree with the problems of a 2-party system, but now is probably the absolute worst possible time to beat that drum - I doubt I’ll see any such talk next year - if we survive fascism. This is not a joke. It’s probably one of the most important presidential elections in our lifetime. Please, send Jill packing to the Russians where she gets her orders, and have this 2-party discussion in 2025, loud and often!

First let’s dispose of Jill Stein, completely agree she’s a tool. The legitimate disagreement between your view and mine is we agree fascism/Trump is an existential threat but you think Biden is the best person to defeat him and I believe putting up Biden at this point is almost suicidal, a great risk and a liability even if you believe he’s the 14th greatest Pres in history.

I also believe you have no one who can touch Biden's record, or gain enough traction this late in the game. I think you have no idea how much you are helping fascism take root in America. IF we're not already fascist by 2025, let's see how many current Biden-bashers show up with better ideas for 2028, before 2028 that is.

vote for RFK jr, he is a true democrat, just like his uncle and his father. Not the warmonger democrats we have today. The bankers/CIA/military/ultra rich have taken over the democrat party.

Hahaha. That anti-science idiot? Bet you also voted against Hillary. I wonder how that turned out. Oh, right, we’re still fucking around and finding out. Right Sergei?

I'm a true democrat - not the warmonger democrats we have today. I went door to door campaigning for Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential run (but now regret that). RFK jr is for the people. The democrats of today are for the bankers, CIA and corporations. Do you agree with this last statement I wrote?

Well you had a nice big drink of the Kool-Aid, huh? Thanks for the laugh. But sure, you go ahead and do your part to let fascism take power. Your stance isn’t reality-based at all. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

your answer is so bad it could be AI generated - or if you want to dig into what I said and respond intelligently, you could do that,

You should definitely burn down the country.

Look, if you want to discuss , i want to talk. If you want to just say pithy one liners and not make a point, then fine - but if you honestly believe that Biden’s a great choice and our democratic system is the best it can get, then you’re the one burning down this country. I care enough to make it better, and am open to learning and discussing about the best way to do that.

Oh I much prefer your pithy diatribe. I made a point alright, you missed it and proved it. Yes, I look at Biden’s 3 year record, and know that so many people like you said Hillary was a horrible candidate. Yeah, cause THAT worked out great. Seems the 2-party is horrible whiners come out in droves - on election year, right Vlad?

John Rochat, you need to read Matt Taibbi and Michael Shellenberger's work. Russiagate was ginned up by the CIA and others in the government. And I'm a liberal democrat saying this. There is so much you don't know.

I see you’re also so much better informed than everyone. What’s that burden like to carry, having to convince everyone else they are idiots? You’re what I envision happening if Dunning and Kruger had a baby and dropped it on its head.

I don’t disagree with most if what you say here but i find it strange how not once did i hear anything about the hostages that were taken or continued to be held. Again nothing is ever gonna change as long as Hamas and Netanyahu are players here.
