One of the best ways to take over a country is to ensure that the population stays frightened and misinformed - a la Mr. Goebells - and that is what is happening. It is no accident that the things authoritarians take down first are the educational institutions and media - and Messrs. Musk, Bannon, Trump et al are well on their way. And, unfortunately, enough people are so uniformed or too busy/disinterested, that they might just get away with it.

Please keep sharing your great insights!

I totally agree with your response. I know many people that are TRUMPSTERS, I'm not, and their main focus is on MONEY; reducing their taxes, to increase their financial portfolios to the max, etc. It all stems from greed as to why they voted for Trump. I can't and never did call him our President. Our American society is a cut throat one and we're going down fast. My husband and I will not become fearful because that's exactly what they, those politicians in control, want in order to plot their dirty deeds to come. We will take our stand as things occur and fight the fight as necessary...... I totally understand how the Civil War pitched family against family as the tension within my family exists. Shamefully the bigotry is still strong in our nation. I've faced it on many platforms throughout my life and always taken a stand; vehemently. Attacking our educational system will be one of their first steps in creating discord within the people; keep them blind and ignorant. Education was my way out of poverty and it hurts to see that our educational system will be attacked. It's not perfect but it is necessary to mprove the system to stimulate more minds within our people, all Americans. ☮️

What I will never understand is why people do not realize that looking out for each other's welfare and making sure everybody has a chance and/or is taken care of is how everyone wins in the end. I, too, have heard all this talk about having "money in their pockets" being the reason they voted for this convicted felon. I am very saddened that so many blindly subscribe to greed and evil - but we hope that, maybe, some will see the error of their ways?

What's maddening is that statistics show that the average person does better economically under a Dem govt, not a Rep govt. All people seem to believe is that somehow DJT is going to give them 2 dollar gas and 1 dollar bread, which is of course rubbish. Ignorance.

How anyone could ever believe that the Trumpzis in any way would ever go out of their way to help the average person is truly beyond me. And now he wants to start a trade war, which will make things even more expensive ...... and yet people stand there and cheer when he mentions it. Same with his insane, cruel mass deportations ... Ignorance indeed.

An economic fact that is indisputable is that the better the poor do the better everyone else does especially the middle classes. This fact has a convenient way of escaping the minds of the greedy, i.e. the GOP.

Fear and hate are the strongest motivators. All the reasons given for supporting tRump are nothing but rationalizations. tRump won this because the Dems did not turnout. Why? One big reason was that in spite of all the good Biden did his approval ratings were poor and she suffered from that among other issues. The Monday morning quarterbacks are geniuses in retrospect. She ran as good a campaign as one could. Instead of women saving us it was men whose fragile egos needed a faux strongman who hates women and are threatened by strong women who showed up, which gave us this disaster.

There aren't any free media outlets to the best of my knowledge countering the coolaid twitter-x and Facebook lead by putin and reshared by Trump just fed about half of our population to the detriment of all . So there is no way to get the uneducated working class people the truth for them to vote as an educated electorate. The government should be regulating Twitter and Facebook, to say nothing of tick tock, etc. , Since they aren't regulating themselves, or just breaking up their monopolies. How can we be a free country without a truly Free press. That's why people like musk and putin can buy elections here. It's not just about campaign election reform but having an educated electorate for democracy to thrive, not whatever they were duped into voting into office just now.

Error of their ways? I'd like to see the democratic party see the error of its way. Harris was forced down our throats. Yeah, sorry. So many people were voting out of fear instead of hope. And, while calling voters for Jamaal Bowman and Rashida Tlaib, I learned that these people did not vote for Trump because of greed. They voted for him because he put the US embassy in Jerusalem. That's right. One issue was paramount. Or someone without much in the way of money or health or opportunity, seeing how he's ignored by Democratic leaders, casting about for something, anything, that is not the status quo. Hopefully, if there is an election in four years, or two years, we will be able to vote for people we believe will really help the majority of us, and not just the wealthy few. People who don't and won't prevaricate on what they are willing to do.

interesting. us embassy in jerusalem. jeez. what does that have to do with inflation? or immigration? I think you're spot on that people saw Harris as another entitled Dem, a la Hilary and the Camelot Clinton clan, and they said, No. Could someone like Fetterman be a candidate? IDK, just grasping for straws because anyone running has to be a millionaire as a baseline, which is disgusting on its own.

You are right about Trump and the Republicans. But I can say for a fact that the Democrats are in on the corruption. Go to my Substack for a free digital copy of my book: The Illusion of Justice. It proves both parties are corrupt and have been conspiring together to pack the courts with corrupt corporate judges who will never side with the American people.

If you don't realize both parties are corrupt and demand an end to the system of legalized bribery that is the root cause of all the problems in the world--there is no hope.

How do they possibly think Elon is good? My head is spinning.

Musk is the recipient of millions (?) from the Federal Government. Asking a recipient of Federal $ to advise on budget cuts is a clear conflict of interest. How can this be?

This is the story that needs to be reported: how much $, from what departments, for what purpose? How has that $ been used?

The current media stories are intended to get us to cower to this future threat possibility.

Civics is no longer taught in schools. It's a more serious problem than people think. But communism? They may as well be teaching about the evils of Zoroastrianism. I'd laugh, but their refusal to acknowledge the danger of fascism prevents me.

And now they’re the only thing we could seize and flood with democracy. So go for it and do it in blocks to control each board.

Thanks for the reminder, Michael. It has been a while since I last watched your movie. Call Seco. I campaign for universal healthcare in my community from 15 to 20 years ago. Here it fell on deaf ears. In fact, I was told by the man in New York State, who has a lead role in guiding legislation in the New York State assembly, that universal healthcare would never pass. I asked why. he said because the healthcare lobby is too strong. What a commentary on our country. It certainly is not what the founders had envisioned from 240 years ago. I may well get back on the horse and ride the universal healthcare/Medicare for all bandwagon once again I’m in my 80s now, but I will continue the fight. Again, thanks for the reminder. Everyone everyone in this country must see your movie second.

I needed a few minutes to pull myself together again after watching that powerful video. So many people in America want the same system we have in Canada; only a handful of rich people stand in their way. Yet the door never swings open. Trump's billionaire base is so strong, that only 'revolution of disgust' will flip it over. But when it finally comes...

Story for you. Some years ago, blue cross kept denying the same claims. I kept calling them about it. Eventually, one of their brave employees called me back privately, away from the office. He told me they automatically throw 25% of claims into the trash without review. They assume most patients will give up. They'll win a war of attrition. But then they made a nistake. They sent me back a large package of someone else's claims, essentially that person's entire medical records. Whoops. Had them by the short hairs. They paid my claim.

Did the vote to include "fascism" pass? You don't say in the article. If it didn't this is an example of what we can expect. Ms.Chisolm, Barbara Lee and Maxine Walter's were not up against the current, well organized, moneyed powers that currently exist. This current capitalistic evil is one I have not seen in my lifetime. I see the words of encouragement but don't hear the strategies to win against it. From what I see the ballot has been reduced to a worthless weapon. Educating us to the realities don't seem to be working when propaganda machines like Fox run 24/7 spouting it's brainwashing untruths. I need something more concrete to have hope.

My grandmother was a republican, loved Nixon, and a huge supporter of Kaiser hospital. When she started having trouble with her gall bladder back in the late '80's, Kaiser refused to remove it and do the surgery needed (a fairly simple surgery, by the way, that both my sister and I had to have years later). But in my grandmother's case, two years later she was diagnosed with gall bladder cancer (which is quite rare). THEN they finally removed it, but it was too late and she died a few months later from it. Kaiser was 100% responsible for her death. 100% . Then, In the '90's I went to the Kaiser (the only insurance my job offered) emergency room at 2 a.m. for excruciating pain for what turned out to be a serious infection in my right tube and ovary (no, it wasn't a tubal pregnancy). But because it was early Saturday morning on a week-end, they refused to even give me an obgyn exam once I got into the exam room because they "didn't treat female problems on the week-end." !!!!!!! I was running a fever and that entire area of my body was swollen. The male doctor pressed on my stomach and said I might be pregnant but he couldn't check me to see. I assured him I was not pregnant unless it was some kind of miracle but he ignored what I said. He refused to do anything and sat in his little office reading a magazine while I remained on the cold table in the emergency exam for hours sick and shivering with nothing happening. Did he really think I was pregnant and just let me lie there with a baby sick and dying inside of me???? (Continued...)

...Continued: Around 6 in the morning the doctor told me to go home and call back in Monday morning when they were allowed to examine and treat me for what was obviously "a woman's problem." This was in Oakland, CA by the way. I went home without any medication (still running a fever of course) and waited until Monday morning to call in. I was very sick and in unrelenting pain and could've died. I took a cab back to the hospital at 9 a.m. and saw a doctor right away, who was shocked at my condition and started working very fast. He made it obvious he was very concerned. He wouldn't let me leave the hospital and put me in a room and told me not to move as he was getting me prepared to have emergency surgery. At least that doctor knew what he was doing. I've often wondered what would've happened had he been the doctor that Saturday morning at 2 a.m., would he have had to comply with the "no women's problems on the week-end" rule from back in those days? My right ovary and tube was removed. Once I could get different insurance I did, but I had to switch jobs to do so.

My grandmother was shocked too. And just to be clear, in case anyone is wondering since the hospital I went to was in Oakland, a predominantly Black city, I (and my grandmother from Oregon) are white. These examples were not the result of race issues. They were the result of Kaiser issues. And my emergency doctor was white. However, the doctor I saw Monday morning who set up the emergency surgery for me, was Black. An amazing, kind, efficient, and smart human being I will be forever grateful for.

I live in Shirley Chisholm's district. I've voted for her and her successors more times than I can count. Last November I chose to NOT vote the Democrat. I'd like to think that Shirley Chisholm would have been braver, but the current congresswoman votes over and over again for genocide. So I wrote in the name of my union local's leaders. (She has no idea.) The fact that only ONE person (Barbara Lee), i.e. 0.25% approximately, would vote against the endless wars tells you something about this "democracy" of ours. One party openly espouses fascism; the other quietly implements fascistic policies.

Our path to a justice and peace lies elsewhere. Building union power is a good start. Mobilizing people to oppose genocide, deportations, racism, and catastrophic climate practices is another. We can't rely on politicians and judges.

All the prosecutor had to do was rely on the tremendous support from us, and deny the bloody $$$ from Ratheon, AIPAC, etc.

She would have won in a landslide if she ran on Medicare For All. Something she once prescribed as a previous presidential candidate.

She could have simply said I will follow US and international law. The focus on democracy while complicit in genocide was absurd.

As I sort through my books in some vain attempt to make order out of chaos, it occurs to me that the titles often say it all. Somebody writes eloquently decades ago about subjects so on point contemporaneously I almost wanna go back and check the date!

I'm nearing the end of The Library Book by Susan Orlean which is relatively recent--2017--and centers on the great library fire in LA back in the eighties. She mentions how fond she is of twitter. Hoo boy.

Yesterday I watched a conversation between Jon Stewart and Bernie Sanders in which they tackle a number of issues including healthcare in this country. And yes, it is enough to make you weep.

You know my takeaway is? As long as I can draw breath, I'm gonna do stuff that I think is reasonable, kind, intelligent and loving. I'm flinging down the gauntlet. I believe that if you can stand upright, or even if you can't, you have no excuse not to operate in the world in this fashion.

No excuse.
