Another thought, on the extended middle class, is that the WW2 taxes generally remained in effect until Ronald Reagan who, with the succeeding Republican presidents, kept reducing taxes on the rich, to the detriment of the rest of us.

Love you Michael. FDR helped get us Social Secuity and LBJ worked for Medicare, alongside the work of many regular Americans. Since then corporate Democrats have been successful at stopping passage of any meaningful legislation giving the American working class any part of the economic pie. So lately poor folks are voting for Trump. Now, with you , Bernie, AOC and us grass roots, old and young We are gonna turn this around. Medicare for all, Student loan forgiveness, Peace with Justice.
In the new year I hope we show how deeply we care about all our neighbors, at home and everywhere else. I hope we avert disasters daily, together, then finish work and share meals. I hope we can tear away the veils around evils, letting the hot air inside out. So many wrongs now to make right. So many solutions to adjust and carry forward. So many good, insightful voices to listen to, and be bolstered by. Thank you.
I was born in 1936…. I had NO idea that that is when the UAW was born….Quite remarkable as it was during the Depression!!!!
My parents moved from Moosejaw, Saskatchewan (during the Depression) to Huntington Park, CA. My mother became a US citizen and voted in every election. I went with her to vote for Harry Truman. (Her friend, a Republican, stayed home and did not vote, she knew Dewey was going to win.) My Dad worked for Convair during WWII and in 1949, when the jobs began to fade we moved from Bayview Terrace (Pacific Beach)CA to Ft. Worth, TX. I was 13. Texas was NOT what I expected…. my college, North Texas State integrated on the Graduate level my Sr.Yr. 1957 (I think) I hitched a ride with a woman who helped integrate the college…. She helped me understand why NTSC was able to avoid any demonstrations, crossburnings, phamphlets on campus…. The President had it cleaned up before the students went to class…. He told the new Graduate students that they were welcome to talk to the Press IN HIS OFFICE…. “It was the law of the land, and he would see to it that North Texas complied” (my words, his action)…. Down the road at another college, riots, crossburnings, did occur. And the year that NTSC was fully integrated, a young athlete named Joe Green was enrolled…. All of this and YOU are how I hold on to hope…. Thank YOU

Get off the phone and help a fellow hard worker. Gather in in p-person groups, we started a writing group in our area...a new Beat Poets group of sorts, we have a Printing press and a hand crank film projector we are teaching the public to use. 😉 We will survive. But we do have to help each other! I am mystified as to what to do for Gaza. I have talked to my legislators, I have sent donations to Gaza. But I hear the help is not getting to them. Even the flotilla ran into difficulty. Are we even getting the real news? I am so worried but not sure what is helping them? Hats off to your family's history in the Unions!!! Power to the people!!! In fact don't work for factories at all!!! Start your own businesses and never get as big as a corporation!!! 😉
