Welcome to the August 2026 Michael Moore Book Club!

A “Book Club Hub” page like this one is where we’re gathering each month. You can learn more about the five titles I selected and where to get your books on this page, which introduced the concept of this book club. Going forward, there will be one main “club hub” page like this one.

Let’s begin by getting to know each other. I’m curious -- which of our inaugural selections are you reading, or plan to read? Where in this beautiful, bewildering world are you joining us from? The Midwest? Southwest? The coasts? Nowheresville? Europe? Canada? Korea?

Tell us a little about yourself and how you spend your days, whether you’re working a job, going to school, raising kids, raising llamas, retired or trying to retire, or simply doing your best to make it through another week.

Now, the first and most important rule of this Book Club.

** You do not have to read all the books!

This is an informal, fun club, not 10^th Grade English. No quizzes, no book reports. Just read one if that’s all the time you’ve got. Scan 20 pages and decide if Camus is for you. The point is discovery. Read something new, think about it, and perhaps share thoughts with others. That’s it.

Depending on which books you find interesting, we may trim the selections to two or three per month. We’ll learn the best way to do this together.

A few key things:

• Keep comments focused on the book’s dedicated page.

  This Club Hub is for introductions only, not discussions or debates on individual books. We’ve organized it this way so you can join the conversations about the books you’re reading without wading through comments about the ones you haven’t cracked yet, and to keep the conversations more focused.
  

• Be civil and stay on target:.
  Disagreement is welcome and encouraged. Contempt is not. Treat your fellow readers with respect. No personal attacks. We are here to think together, discuss, debate and contemplate other perspectives. We reserve the right to boot comments that are off subject or disrespectful to other members.
  

• Avoid spoilers.
  Sure, there aren’t spoilers in Thomas Paine or poetry. But in early discussions on novels, for instance, please refrain. We’ll let everyone know when a thread is open for a full, no-holds-barred, spoiler-filled conversation.
  

• Commenting is reserved for paid members to maintain civil discussions.

  I’ve learned that keeping comments amongst paid subscribers keeps the trolls and haters (mostly) out. However, all subscribers free and paid, can view all the comments, and, as always, you’re welcome to email me directly. I read all email, even if I don’t respond.
  

• I’ll host a Q&A so we can talk about all the books.
  Reading is critical, but the discussion is also important. We’ll discuss the questions and points these books raise and what any of this has to do with the strange moment we are living through. More details will follow, so be sure your email is enabled.

** As noted above, in order to have a troll-free, hate-free comments section, my Comments section here on my Substack is limited to paid subscribers. I believe in open and fair discussion, and want to keep things as open for everyone, but keep the tone as respectful as possible. I do read through the comments, as do my producers.
