We knew something was up when the prisoners were released right after Reagan was sworn in…that it was no coincidence. But to hear the story behind it is a bitter pill to swallow.

Yes. Every President since Ike has been bent on turning the clock back on America. Remember Ike told us about the Military Industrial Complex. I think he realized that the Fascist’s were engaged in continuing their plans. When Ike spoke these words in January 1961 it was only 16 years since the end of WWII.

It is obvious to me that their vision of America is that of Mussolini and Hitler.

We are at the crossroads in which they finally announce their agenda. We are about to experience another Ft. Sumpter!

I personally cannot wait for the next brawl. Only this time no amnesty!

Saint Ronnie was beyond treasonous. Yes, the hostages should be interviewed about how they feel about this.

I am glad that you talked about LBJ's wrongs, too. I have known since 1968 that Nixon was a bad person, This was my first election in America. I voted for Hubert Humphrey as the lesser of two bad choices, I supported Robert F Kennedy who was murdered in June. So nothing Nixon did surprised me. I was also an opponent (a very loud one) of the Vietnam war and although I thought of Humphrey as a weak man, I hoped he'd get us out of an illegal war. Yes, Nixon should have been impeached and convicted, but I have never and still do not think of Gerald Ford as a traitor, I think of him as a not too intelligent person who followed his party line in pardoning Nixon. stupid, but not with intentional treason. Reagan was also a dummy. (Why do the Republicans pick so many really stupid people to run for President? Are they hoping for a ventriloquist's dummy who will do as he's told?) Again Reagan was an awful President, not so bad as the trumpster, but close. He was a B grade, not very good actor. He lived up to this label. The Iran/Costra was not a secret at the time. Those of us who were liberal progressives were very aware of Reagan/Oliver collaboration. The NYT article was not a shocker for me. I was already a believer. GHW Bush was NOT a good president or a noble one, I admit I had forgotten about his invasion of Panama, but we (Americans) have long meddled in South American politics to the detriment to the citizens of each country we meddled and the favor ONLY of the rich Americans who wanted the meddling. Fortunately, GHW was a short term president, forgettable. As for W, he was so lacking in intellect that he's barely worth discussion. He did exactly what his 'Daddy" and 'Uncle Dickie' told him to do. The first time I saw W on TV my immediate response was 'good grief it's Alfred E Neuman' (of Mad Magazine), I never changed this opinion, was the Iraq invasion treasonable, yes, and it was a blight on America that will last forever. When we, without provocation, attacked a sovereign nation in hope of corporate gain, namely OIL. I hold Cheney, Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz responsible for this calamity. Should W have had the intellectual capacity to stop this crime, yes, but he didn't. Grinning like Alfred E Neuman, he declared victory as the war barely started, He did nothing to call it off, so he indeed aided and abetted the atrocity, so legally he could be held guilty of aiding and abetting, but willfully committing treason? Doubtful. Which leaves us with the trumpster, the dumbest, least intelligent person ever elected to the highest office in the land. He did commit treason on January 6, 2021, in plain sight of the entire world, on television, for goodness sake. He refused to listen to anyone advising him to step down. Indeed, he listened only to those persons who stroked his ego. So in any honorable court of law (which immediately excludes the current Supreme Court) he and his minions would be held guilty. But also guilty are wealthy persons, and every corporation they lead and ALL should all be tried for treason.

To summarize: Yes Nixon was knowingly and willingly treasonous AND guilty of war crimes. No, Ford was guilty of lack of intelligence and inability to critically analyze the situation, but the worst you could accuse him and win was following the party line. Reagan, too was guilty of being a genial imbecile and did a lot of harm to the nation in the 8 years he inhabited the presidency. But I think that like the trumpster he viewed the presidency as the best role he was ever offered. Reagan too, was guilty of stupidity but would not be held guilty of treason in a court of law. George HW Bush was a slimy, smarmy, business man. He would have committed any criminal act to increase his wealth, but I don't see a charge of treason there. W is a happy little clown, and although acts of treason and war crimes were definitely committed in his name I think he could be charged at most with aiding and abetting. Which leaves the trumpster, the ,lowest of the low. the worst of the lot. Although he is also the stupidest, least intelligent ever elected. The treason he committed was done in broad daylight in view of all Americans, and the rest of the world. If we don't indict, prosecute, and find guilty, we will be viewed as the weakest most corrupt nation on earth today, That the unSupreme Court will release him, doesn't matter because the world knows he and his retrumplican cronies packed the court with religious extremists. The persons who will suffer condemnation and historical ignominy will be Mitch McConnell, Kevin McCarthy and every maggot in office.

It is important to understand the history, the context, so that we can be in This moment and implement a Livable Future. I can easily feel bogged down. "What if's ," abound. But the past is past, our job is to be wise enough to not repeat it.

But then I see my grandson watching a hummingbird and I know what I must do in this moment, as long as I have breath.

Good day Michael. I have never considered LBJ to be a Democrat president even though he was in the Democratic party. When you say, all the GOP Presidents since Ike have been traitors, in my opinion you should say all of the presidents since the assassination of John f Kennedy have been traitors. I believe that where we are at right now was all planned in order for the rich to make money to get richer.. First it was the Vietnam war, then it became normalizing relations with China to bust the unions and importing immigrants to bust the unions and to give the rich tax breaks called the trickle down. Since the mid 1980s both parties have been owned by the rich right wing fascist. The right has transferred 50 to 100 trillion dollars from the middle class to the billionaire globalist the last 60 years. Now that America is broke and looted they want to install a dictatorship. I really think China will be picked to rule the world because they are united as one and they are very intelligent and they work cheap and there are 1.5 billion of them and they can police the world. America will become just another drug torn third world nation. Thanks to the right wingers. I appreciate all you have done to make the world a better place.

I was also horrified when I saw the story about Reagan and the hostages in Iran. I emailed a friend that I felt like my head might explode. With all the horrible things going on in the past 6 years or so, I'm not sure why this was so intense for me. But I also wondered at first if it was true. I first saw it on Yahoo news, and quickly looked for other sources to confirm it. I think it took a day or two for me to find something about it on Democracy Now. I didn't see anybody else reporting on it right away. It seemed that it should be the main story of the day. Unbelievable that it wasn't.

The best Bait & Switch of all time. I have a hunch the orange shit stain has something reeeaaaallly juicy he's threatening to reveal to the press and the world. He just loves to control the narratives.

I too and wondering why there has not been an arrest. He's the epidemy of a treasonous traitor who incited an insurrection. He IS and his cult following is not only a threat to U.S. but to the entire world.

I'm just gonna say it... Merrick Garland needs to grow a pair and save U.S.!!! LOCK HIM UP!!!

Mike, about 30 to 35 of the former hostages (52 total) held by Iran are still alive -- and most of them try to meet once a year. I would love for a documentarian to record their next get-together. Thank you.

I'll never forget Ted Koppel's Nightline show signing on and off with the number of days they were held in captivity. Pure political gold for the Reagan campaign.

Mr. Moore I just listened to your podcast and it’s really interesting. As you know I’m writing you from Canada and I’m huge fan, and you’re so right presidents do lots of things which are wrong and somehow they always don’t getting in trouble or anything like that. I’m just impressed on how they get away with it

Reflections on "there are more of us than there are of them." That is not true of my home of the past 40 years (Georgia). Nor is it true of any of the other Southern states. Or any of the other states the trump won in 2020. Trump's vote total increased by 10 million from 2016 -- AFTER mismanaging Covid-19.

There are an AWFUL lot of "them." I don't believe we are understanding the true nature of the problem. A critical mass of "them" are like the walking dead -- their minds given over to a cult, and are unable to think. How else could viewing a centuries-old work of art like Michelangelo's David cause a stir?

Michael, I was living in CA when Reagan was elected Prez. I felt in my gut it was an awful result, though I knew little about him at the time. My tenured brother lost his teaching job, I bought my '75 Camero from a family who had to move back East due to the husband losing his job as an Air Traffic Controller, who Reagan had fired. I became an ESL teacher to the refugees of Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos, the favorite job of my life. I met Hang S. Ngor when he brought in his Oscar to my class of Cambodian students and talk to them about his life and movie.

In addition to all the facts you have reminded & shown us, there are many untold stories. Thank you, Mike
