In Oakland, CA we elected former US Rep Barbara Lee to be our mayor. She just took office in May, and she’s already making changes. She’s out and about listening to residents’ concerns. We have high hopes, but of course time will tell.
Mamdani's election could be just the event that helps the US turn away from the current authoritarian track we are now on. In fact, New York is one of the world's premier cities; if New Yorkers move toward socialism and away from fear and greed, other people will gain the confidence to do so, too. And yes, Michael, there are other Mamdanis out there...We are our own leaders. We are our own best hope.

I couldn’t believe the mainstream party was refusing to support their own primary victor and supporting Cuomo, whose time has passed, until I remembered the architects of the restructured Democratic Party economic goals (to make them more like Republicans) - Bill and Hillary - were among the chief decision makers in the party. 🎉 that he calls himself a socialist!
My mother got a great education in the Kentucky mountains from a “socialist minister” and his wife, even went on to college. Seen as political goals, socialism is about supporting the people whereas capitalism is about supporting, well, capital! What do they think that line in the preamble of the Constitution means: “promote the general Welfare”?

It's very exciting to have a new mayor that has truly good intentions. And I have no doubt that he will be elected, even though the capitalist class and their agents are doing everything to stop him. But once elected-- will he be allowed to govern as a socialist or implement his policies? Already he has been forced to indicate that he probably will keep ruling-class fascist Jessica Tisch as head of the police. She supports the SVG (the unit designed for breaking up demonstrations and beating up protestors) and discredited and racist "broken windows" policing. All stuff that Mamdani is on record as opposing. We can't vote in socialism I'm afraid. Even with a nice guy like Mamdani. BUT... it still is a good thing because once he's elected, the class struggle, in NYC at least, will sharpen. POWER TO THE WORKING CLASS!

In Seattle’s recent primary, Katie Wilson took more than 50% of the vote. Katie is the longstanding Director of the Transit Riders Union.
Her focus ,like Mamdani, is the lack of Affordability in every aspect of our lives:housing, food, education, transportation.
