FINALLY! Something finally landed! It's been years of lies, smears, criminality, vileness and hatred -- all of which was acceptable to nearly half the country and the entire GOP -- but, at long last, something hit home. We now know The Line Not to Be Crossed and it is an attack on Puerto Rico. Trump and the campaign are reeling. May they not recover. And may all of us be Puerto Ricans.

Please Us citizens, get out and vote for decency. Vote for Kamala Harris PLEASE. As a Canadian I care deeply and am helpless to do anything other than just watch in horror as my beloved neighbours are being tormented and threatened and the future of your country and the world is at stake.

Fellow Canuck by way of Ireland. We've got our problems too. But we've got a lot of our people covered in ways that a whole lot of Americans have been spooked into believing is big S socialist, communist. Jeez the very lowest minimum wage here, in the province of Alberta btw very Right leaning- is $15/hour. Free healthcare, and now Dental being phased in now, Federally funded daycare being fased in to eventually $10 a day.

Just a few things that help working people with the cost of living. It's not Socialism - it's social programs.

Thank you. Most of us feel the same way here, and so far, we seem to be voting in record numbers. Watching that clip of that person who said those awful things to Mehdi Hasan, really brought home something I didn't think I'd see on tele. The level of hatred that is bubbling up from Trump's orbit, is frightening. We MUST relegate this candidate to the rubbish bin of history.

Yes we are being tormented just as an emotionally abused spouse or child. The incessant profanity lying and veiled threats are being ignored and have become normalized. Decent people are exhausted. Why are our leaders allowing unfettered hate rhetoric?

It wasn't only that poor excuse for a comedian. Scheduled speakers were equally off the rails on racism, misogyny, white supremacy grievance.

Elmo Musk probably the creepiest of the lot.

What self-respecting man would vote for Trumpo after that shower of boys pretending to be men?

What self-respecting woman didn't run for the nearest exit? LOL

HELP SWING STATES ELECT HARRIS

Get on board, folks. Phonebanking and more is happening right up to and including November Fifth. SEED THE VOTE is even paying travel/lodging for folks to go to swing states and canvass. I UPDATED THIS LIST 10/29 BASED ON THOSE GROUPS I KNOW CONTINUE TO BE ACTIVE AND NEED VOLUNTEERS.

If you would like to work with a non-profit or other groups that want to elect Harris and are not funded by the Democratic Party, there are many organizations that are working hard to help swing states get Harris elected. Please help, no matter where in the world you live. I welcome you to copy and share this list with others. Thank you.

PHONEBANKING and DONATIONS are the primary options, with some CANVASSING and TEXTING also possible. PHONEBANKING is done without revealing your phone number. I do not know how that works with Texting.

Experts who study these things have seen that such simple actions as personal phone calls or texts to specifically identified voters can and do make a difference. The organizations below are either the experts or are groups that partner with the experts. Some of these organizations promote who to vote for, while others just encourage infrequent voters to vote, knowing that the people they contact typically vote Democratic. All of these groups can benefit from your time and/or your donations (some of which can be tax-deductible).

PHONEBANKING and CANVASSING: The ENVIRONMENTAL VOTER PROJECT identifies millions of non-voting environmentalists and turns them into consistent voters. I have done canvassing and phonebanks with them. https://www.environmentalvoter.org/

PHONEBANKING and TEXTING: THIRD ACT primarily recruits Seniors as volunteers, but all are welcome. https://thirdact.org/

PHONEBANKING and CANVASSING: Programs with ACTIVATE AMERICA have Volunteers contact voters via Phonebanking, and Canvassing. https://www.activateamerica.vote/

PHONEBANKING and CANVASSING: SWING LEFT is coordinating or has information about both: https://swingleft.org/take-action

PHONEBANKING: The PENNSYLVANIA RELIGIOUS ACTION CENTER are phonebanking to get Pennsylvanians voting. https://rac.org/take-action/rac-your-state/rac-pa

PHONEBANKING and CANVASSING: SEED THE VOTE pays travel/lodging to canvass in Swing States and also teams up with organizations like SHOWING UP FOR RACIAL JUSTICE (SURJ) with phonebanking campaigns of volunteers calling voters in Swing States.

Of all the appalling things in that rally, the single worst moment was Stephen Miller, a Jewish man, yelling out America is for Americans. History: Jews were denied entry to the United States during the Holocaust. Indeed, Miller echoed what was being said at the time about Jews.

Let’s GO and Do Something! Don’t boo, VOTE! I’m feeling happy so many people have early voted. I’ve never participated in rallies, or volunteered for any other campaigns, until this one. Felt good to be with other Dems and cheer for Kamala, and all she represents for the future of this country. I’m still stressed out on the outcome of this election. I walked around like a Zombie for at least 2 weeks when Trump won in 2016. Just a few days to go…Michael can you share positive thoughts?

This country has the stupidest voters in the world, the United States has legalized crime in government, our politicians use insider trading to make themselves millionaires, the Pentagon and the Military industrial complex keep wars going so they can make trillions of dollars in profits, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Ukraine, and Gaza are all false wars with all but the Gaza war with Israel conducting a genocide of the Palestinians people, as long as we allow corrupt corporations, and billionaires to run the country, the people will never have a government that works for them. The voters who continue to vote for the two party system will make sure the corrupt corporations and billionaires run the country and steal our tax money for themselves.

Natalie's avatar

I'm lazy, so here's a question: did your country ever have more than 2 viable political parties?

Expand full comment
Michael MacPherson's avatar

I am a citizen of the united states and Canada, the US is the only country I know of that allows only two parties, there are more political parties such as the green party, but the US political system only counts the Democratic party and the republican Party, because they both work for the corporations, and the billionaires who run the country. There are other parties but they are not allowed to go to the debates, they are not allowed on the ballets, because the other parties want the people to run the country, they want Medicare for all, a living wage of $20.00 per hour minimum, they want to stop the massive amount of money going to the Military Industrial Complex, stop legalized corruption in the government, and have more electric cars and plug in stations. So the Democratic party and the republican Party will not allow the other parties to have a chance of being elected.

The voters keep voting against their own best interests by keeping in power the corporate politicians, who steal the taxpayer's money to make sure they have the best medical care in the world, while the poor and the middle class have medical care that is ranked 40th-50th in the world, politicians are multi millionaires because they are allowed to do insider trading, keep giving a trillion dollars to the military complex to have endless wars so the Pentagon and the military industrial complex make hundreds and billions of dollars in the sales of weapons, to Ukraine, and Israel funding the largest genocide in human history. When the poor, middle class, and the elderly need help they get crumbs or nothing, while our legalized crime government treats our tax money like their own piggy bank.

A Trump blackout is the only antidote for Trumpism and the cancerous bile that it has let loose into Americas ' reality. The media needs to turn him and his acolytes off . Yes OFF.

Is there anything more he needs to say or do to prove what a disgusting human being he is ?

Does the public really need to hear any more ?

Isn't there another world out there besides his ? Don't we have anything else to focus on ?

Turn him off ...and pressure your favourite "news' source ,blogger , etc to do the same.

He is thrilled by the endless attention and keeps outdoing himself to get more .

MSG is a perfect example.

Cut him off and spare your mental health .

The election has already been decided.

The media wants your attention and so they'll get it anyway they can.

It's the attention economy. Are you outraged at what you read, the video clips you watch? That's the entire point. Xitter is the same.

It's addictive, designed to be so. I like to refer to Prof Tim Snyder's Twenty Lessons from his book On Tyranny, the 20 lessons are very grounding. Two that really appreciate as sound advice:

12. Make eye contact and small talk. This is not just polite. It is part of being a citizen and a responsible member of society. It is also a way to stay in touch with your surroundings, break down social barriers, and understand whom you should and should not trust. If we enter a culture of denunciation, you will want to know the psychological landscape of your daily life.

13. Practice corporeal politics. Power wants your body softening in your chair and your emotions dissipating on the screen. Get outside. Put your body in unfamiliar places with unfamiliar people. Make new friends and march with them.

Get outside, explore where you live, know (or if you don't already) get to know your neighbours, your community, it's leaders, make friends or just acquaintances- be where you are in other words. Life is not the screen - that is not where you actually live.

Michael Moore and others should learn how NATO intentionally triggered the Ukraine war by converting 14 countries on Russia's border to join NATO. The final straw was trying to convert Ukraine. Russia has been invaded 3 times through Ukraine (Napoleanic Wars, WW1 and WW2). In the following youtube video, US Army Colonel Douglas MacGregor explains how all this happened:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5WYOv0Bk1w&ab_channel=CyrusJanssen

Countries bordering Russia begged to be part of NATO. After the fall of the USSR, countries who won their independence established democracies. To underpin their democracies they instituted the Rule of Law, Free and fair elections, and more. To guarantee the Security of their fledgling democracies, they joined NATO, meeting it's criteria for

membership.

You presumably live in America. Your country (apart from Pearl Harbor) has no history of invasion, no history of a totalitarian regime. I will be nice here.

You don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

Right, the USA, with the Pacific, Atlantic oceans and two relatively harmless neighbors in Canada and Mexico has not been invaded. On the other hand Russia has been invaded 3 times through Ukraine and NATO/USA is installing offensive missles in Europe pointed at Russia. As Colonel Douglas MacGregor explained in the video, Russia never intended on taking the entire country of Ukraine, just the eastern parts that were the most ethnically Russian and he took back the areas around the Black Sea where he keeps his only warm water port. There are so many additonal reasons, right or wrong, that he did what he did. Watch the video and then let me know if I know what I'm talking about.
