As a non believer with a capital A - this is the first time in my 54 years, I wish I did actually believe in JC! So instead, sending lots of positive thoughts from the UK to all Americans that sanity reins & democracy prevails in the coming days. Here’s hoping Karma really is a Bitch 😊

I am what orthodox Jews refer to as a "Noahide." -- A non-Jew on a path towards conversion to Judaism. (I'm in no hurry, and actually don't expect to convert anytime soon.)

This past year has been especially painful for me. I had to learn about the difference between truly religious, Torah-observant Jews....and religious Zionists. As such, I had to stop contributing to those latter groups. It was painful, but I am grateful for what I have learned.

To quote Todd Rundgren: "I'd rather live by a dream, than live by a lie." (Fair Warning)

Welcome to the tribe (almost), Thomas. Don’t let anyone call you names, least of all shortsighted Orthodox Jews. You can be Jewish and hate what the government of Israel is doing. They’re the ones who aren’t following the core tenets of Judaism.

It was maybe a dozen years ago I started to dive into Torah -- guided by some wonderful rabbis. I started to fall in love.

In the early 70s, I was stationed in San Francisco in the Navy. I saw the film Fiddler on the Roof when it came out -- and it was that line that Tevye sings about if he was rich -- "the sweetest thing of all." It haunted me until I started to explore later in life.

The stories this Catholic girl could tell about my jewish friends, co-workers, we were all rebels, and I miss them, they were the best. Obviously none of us devout.

JC existed, historically, he's mentioned in both Islam and Judaism, so I don't think the Catholic religion (yes Catholic, the Mothership - all the Protestants came after) made him up.

My take - he was an actual human who walked this earth - a very enlightened individual, and noted. :-)

Thank you Michael, for illuminating the heart of Jimmy Carter. He was elected President when I was graduating from high school in Georgia and he and Roselyn have been guiding lights of how to live and die ever since. I’ll look up and pray with you.🙏🏼🙏🏼

100 pct. He was the first president I could vote for back in 1976. He got the shaft from the oil companies and Reagan/republicans re the hostages. still remember hostages freed right after Reagan takes office - how the eff does that happen? Carter post-presidency has done more good than any other president in my lifetime. He was too honest - we didn't deserve this man who was ahead of his time, imho. Way to go Jimmy!

I love the compliment paid to Carter by someone that went: "He was the only one to use the office of president as a stepping stone to greater things."

Jimmy Carter was a true Christian who acted in accordance with Christ's teachings - unlike many who call themselves Christians.

I think Jimmy Carter, that peanut farmer, that very boring man - is enlightened.

No halo, no words in a Book, no fanfare - he walked in the path of the enlightened.

If I had a the Church of Natalie - he'd be a Saint. :-)

He's kind of like Mother Theresa who was there to humbly help other people. As said, he was christian in that regard, but taking away all religion, he is an honest, caring man who treats others as he would wish to be treated. Rare. Very rare.

Jesus is recognized as a Prophet in Judaism and Islam.

Me, a Catholic - I know Jesus as one of the few truly Enlightened persons who walked the earth.

His basic foundational teachings aren't much different to Islam, Judaism.

The rest is what humans chose to interpret for their own comfort in any given era.

I wasn’t a big fan of Jimmy when he was President, but Reagan was no picnic either.

Oh well.

My opinion went way up in his post-presidency when he was personally helping to build housing.

He was walking the walk.

Oh! Michael Moore!

Is it ok that I love you?!

Ever since Roger and Me?!

The only thing we ever disagreed upon, and I was wrong about, Is that Joe Biden could win!

Kamala is going to be one of our finest Presidents, of course!

I’m 83, a life long lefty and proud of it!

I taught all my 23,000 students in 44 years, how to find the Truth, thru the Scientific Method of Proof! (Which never included Wikipedia!)

You have been a total Inspiration to me to “ keep on truckin’” when the going got rough, (a lot!). I go back to ‘48 when I first got interested in politics in Chicago at 7 years old with the Chicago Daily News Headline: DEWEY WINS!!!

How many of you remember that first Big Lie? It only lasted hours!

It is heartbreaking to see our beautiful, beloved, old, Democracy fall into Fascism!

As a survivor of the London Blitzkrieg massacre, I implore you to reject this current wave of American Nazism!

Or face the threat at our own PERIL!

UPDATED OPTIONS FOR YOU TO HELP SWING STATES ELECT HARRIS

Hello. I live in Arizona. There are many organizations that are working hard to help Arizona and other swing states get Harris elected. Please help, no matter where in the world you live.

If you would like to work with a non-profit or other groups that want to elect Harris and are not funded by the Democratic Party, I created the list below and sent it out to friends and family all over the country. I hope this list is helpful to you as well. I JUST UPDATED IT BASED ON THOSE GROUPS I KNOW CONTINUE TO BE ACTIVE AND NEED VOLUNTEERS. I welcome you to copy and share this list with others. I am going to post this list each time Michael sends out one of his missives. Thank you.

PHONEBANKING and DONATIONS are the primary options, with some POSTCARDING, LETTERWRITING, and TEXTING also possible. PHONEBANKING is done without revealing your phone number. I do not know how that works with Texting.

Experts who study these things have seen that such simple actions as personal postcards, phone calls, or texts to specifically identified voters can and do make a difference. The organizations below are either the experts or are groups that partner with the experts. Some of these organizations promote who to vote for, while others just encourage infrequent voters to vote, knowing that the people they contact typically vote Democratic. All of these groups can benefit from your time and/or your donations (some of which can be tax-deductible).

PHONEBANKING and CANVASSING: The ENVIRONMENTAL VOTER PROJECT identifies millions of non-voting environmentalists and turns them into consistent voters. I have done canvassing and phonebanks with them. https://www.environmentalvoter.org/

PHONEBANKING, TEXTING, and POSTCARDING: THIRD ACT primarily recruits Seniors as volunteers, but all are welcome. https://thirdact.org/

PHONEBANKING, POSTCARDING, and CANVASSING: Programs with ACTIVATE AMERICA have Volunteers contact voters via Postcards, Phonebanking, and Canvassing. https://www.activateamerica.vote/

LETTERWRITING: VOTE FORWARD coordinates letter-writing campaigns to voters. https://votefwd.org/campaigns

PHONEBANKING: The PENNSYLVANIA RELIGIOUS ACTION CENTER are phonebanking to get Pennsylvanians voting. https://rac.org/take-action/rac-your-state/rac-pa

PHONEBANKING: SEED THE VOTE teams up with organizations like SHOWING UP FOR RACIAL JUSTICE (SURJ) with phonebanking campaigns of volunteers calling voters in Swing States.

POSTCARDING: THE CIVICS CENTER coordinates sending postcards to young people in Pennsylvania and Arizona to encourage them to vote in the November 5th General Election. Must sign up by 10/18/24.

PHONEBANKING: CALLS FOR CLIMATE is phonebanking to elect climate champions.

Excellent article! I simply can't imagine anyone in this country better than Jimmy Carter as far a being a genuinely kind, thoughtful, hardworking man who literally gave his entire life to his country in a myriad of ways. Man, we have been so lucky to have him!

Finally, I still don't understand all the reasons behind our commitment to Israel in the face of Bibi's scourched earth tactics. Biden clearly hates the guy and knows that Bibi is a deadly, loose canon. So why not cut him off at the knees? Now that the leader of Hamas is dead, why does the destruction have to continue? In reality, it seems to me that Israel could fight forever. Do they really believe that they can erase every last Hamas terrorist on this planet?

Imagine you have a friend who's got a mental illness, PTSD and the like, and the wall at the built around himself is so rigid, it's impenetrable. Supporters of Israel in its present form simply cannot be reasoned with. Now add the extra advisory that your poor wounded friend is armed to the teeth. (Wow I suddenly realized that I feel like I'm talking about Maga hats.)

Michael, one point Kamala is missing in her attack on Trump, is the fact that so many Americans think they remember his great economy, In fact, like the 400 million from his father, he inherited a strong economy from the Obama/Biden presidency. They rebuilt a destroyed economy they inherited from George Bush, and passed that along to Trump. That is what Americans remember. Trump could not have rebuilt any economy. By the way, he did not win Michigan in 2016. His cohorts in the Michigan

republican government at the time, threw out enough mail in votes because of signatures, plus bags of votes from Detroit that were not delivered to the polls. The mail in votes were down 15% in Detroit and Milwaukee in that election. Are we to believe those voters got their ballots, but did not bother to return them in the most important election of their lives? Many voters support Trump on this single issue. Please use your platform to inform the public of this fallacy.

Expand full comment

Most people don't understand that Presidents have very little influence over the economy. With Congress' permission, they can start wars and that's about it. Congress has a much greater impact on the economy, but seldom uses it effectively. Wall Street and the Fed have, by far, much greater influence on the economy than both President and Congress.

It is strange then, that Biden has made a brilliant recovery from the pandemic, with a radical right wing congress fighting him every inch of the way.

Expand full comment

I wasn't aware that Biden suffered from the pandemic.

As for the economy, economies normally recover from setbacks. Stimulus spending helped, but near zero interest rates had a much greater effect.
