All the things being referred to in the episode and comments come under the umbrella of "quality of life." Why can't we use those words?... Why can't we own that term?
Turkeys, warm coats, smiling, tutoring, etc, etc, etc.... all of this speaks to what WE all contribute to our quality of life. And I understand we want this linked to that "Batman signal in the sky.:" This is really good stuff! .. It gets us ON target... and now we need is to point to the bullseye -- to be aware of what that point is. (I've spent decades on this...)
When we first moved to Georgia, I learned that a child born into poverty here has 90% odds of remaining in poverty through the rest of their lives. It's this systemic thing that has to be confronted.
Let's not forget that electing more Democrats is a MEANS to an end, never the end in itself. Shalom.
I am really enjoying these “blue dots.” I have also recently watched Fahrenheit 9/11 and Bowling for Columbine. I have joined the “fan base” who appreciates the work you do. I knew Bush was lying. I stood in the cold dark November rain for 2 hours when I lived in Ohio, just so I could vote against him. That was the last time I voted in person. Thanks again Mike.
Today's short message was FULL of wonderful suggestions. I love the idea. That will certainly get people talking. It put the message into workable practice. What a wonderful world this would be if we start witih just the simple things.
George Will, in an op-ed in the Washington Post today, wrote about the importance of mid-western values. Commenters dog-piled him, pointing out there are folks with Trump flags flying in their yards, narrow minded and overtly racist. They accused Will of wanting a time machine to travel back to a time that never actually was.
An Ohio Democrat, I defended the people of my state. Despite our differences THERE IS such a thing as Midwestern values. We work hard and play hard. Grumble about taxes, but pass fire, police, school and library levies. My town hosted the Gay Olympics and we were told we were the friendliest and most welcoming of any town they'd visited.
As neighbors, we mind our own business. Until someone needs help. Then everyone jumps in to help. Everyone. A guy in a MAGA hat clearing snow from the walk of a couple flying a pride flag. Three Black men mowing an elderly white lady's lawn every week. Midwestern values are a real thing that transcend differences.
I believe this is also an American value. We are going to restore dignity and bipartisan cooperation in our government one vote at a time.
But, flying a TRUMP flag pretty much negates some of that & George Will has always been a conservative white male who enjoyed that patriarchal privilege….we’ve got a LONG way
to go! Americans need to look out there & embrace OTHER cultures & BREAK BREAD w/people they really don’t know again & again to appreciate & respect them….
Agree we have a long way to go. The point I was trying to make is that Midwestern values in my town outweigh political affiliation. Even among those who hold all but the most extreme views.
To all the Oath Kreepers in the world. We have you, 40,000 of you on an email chain snagged by the FBI. This a list of 40,000 insurrectionists and persons of aid and comfort. None can hold any office!
Our community does a lot of this, maybe because we are mostly democrats. Many are retired, wealthy and are church going and so are used to giving charity.
Also the Nextdoor app has all these kind of asks where people step up and help.
Actually, the Democratic Party is attracting more affluent people these days. Pew Research. Blue areas are all Skewing wealthier. A huge shift in the paradigm for the country. It will be college education.
I write today out of deep worry and concern for a dear friend -- a Navy buddy I met back in the 70s. One way I'm dealing with the worry is to try bring out a "pearl" in the form of an idea for action. I'll cal my friend "Louis" -- not his real name.
I live in Cobb County, Georgia, and Louis, after completing 30+ years in the Navy, settled back to live in his hometown near Springfield, MA. He's about 5-6 years my senior, and I'm about to reach 70. On Thursday evening, we got an email from Louis telling us that he was in his 7th day after testing positive for Covid-19. He described his "support team" -- people who were delivering food while he isolated himself in his apartment. He said he would try to call as soon as his voice felt up to it.
I wrote back urging him to be prepared to get to a hospital if, after 7 days, the symptoms started to worsen, and begged Louis to send us a short email each day letting us know his progress. It was the last time we have heard from him.
I tried to manage my feeling of being upset that Louis waited 7 days after testing positive to let us know. It was time that could have been used to discuss therapies like Paxlovid -- which will give a 75 year old who is fully vaxxed and boosted an even better fighting chance. I feel ashamed that I feel so useless at this point.
I advocate for a checklist that I'm putting together. Which becomes part of a buddy system. What if Louis didn't have his local support system? I imagine there's plenty of seniors out there who don't. (Telling people in the network the MINUTE you find out you're positive kicks off the next series of steps on the list.) Thank you VERY much for providing this way for me to share my concerns and idea.

Love that phrase, “Come under the umbrella of quality of life”!!! Could also be a fine image to project...maybe a t-shirt?
I love you, Michael Moore. You are a liberation theologist. A real one....

Then you’re vey lucky because I’m not sure that’s the norm. I’ve spent time in Nebraska & my farming relatives there don’t care that trump
didn’t follow through w/all he promised them, & then giving tax breaks to rich/corporations & they voted for him again!

Michael, you give me hope. You are a beacon calling us together. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

How do people in blue areas help?
Actually, the Democratic Party is attracting more affluent people these days. Pew Research. Blue areas are all Skewing wealthier. A huge shift in the paradigm for the country. It will be college education.
I am going to bring up some of your suggestions at our next Women's Democratic Club meeting.
We already do a lot of community charity work. We provide food, school supplies, etc. to help those in need.
Michael, you are freaking brilliant! You are a genius. 967 1111...got it!
Kindness and love and humanity. The most important things of all! Yes!! ❤️
Woke up this morning, thanking the Almighty for another day to try to get it right. Scanned the news and started to reflect on this final day of 2022.
Today, I am especially thankful that, when my obituary is written, I will not be referred to as "G-d's Rottweiler."
40,000 Oath Kreepers Identified by FBI. How do so describe the joy. Etta help me out!
