I am listening and watching this brave person for the second time giving this speech and am so moved by his words and the emotional support by those surrounding him. It brings back memories of my Irish Catholic heritage when we gathered together to support one another. No difference here. As Jane Goodall would have said, no doubt, we are all sentient beings that have a right to live and thrive and serve as Zohran Mamdani will do quite well as the next Mayor of New York City.
Yes. Mamdani is a new generation of Democrats – finally. Protests are good, but protesters, Democrats in government, and the news media have not recognized the ongoing criminal felony insurrection led by Trump with Musk’s support. What’s happened in America is an insurrection by Trump, his administration, ICE agents, Republicans in Congress, and six justices on the Supreme Court. The insurrection started on January 6, 2021, and was planned in PROJECT 2025 to continue as planned in 2025. The authoritarian illegal war attacking Americans redefined as enemy combatants, is defined as a felony crime in federal law (18 U.S. Code § 2383) in language that is clear and easy to understand:
“Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.”
Ignorance drives the failure to recognize crimes and enforce the law which threatens democracy. The threat is supported by the weak and corrupt federal legal system. The weak federal legal system includes the corrupt Supreme Court which is now controlled by Trump and the wealthy. Will the weak federal legal system stop Trump? No. The states controlled by Democrats must act to stop Trump using the legal system in the states which is protected and given authorization by the Constitution.
From January 6, 2021, through 2024, the weak federal legal system enabled the illegal election of Trump who should have been convicted of the felony crime of insurrection and imprisoned. Trump should have been prevented from being on the ballot in 2024, but Section 3 of the 14th Amendment that prohibited him from holding office was not enforced by the corrupt Supreme Court. In 2025, Trump is exploiting the weak legal system to engage in his many illegal actions such as illegally ignoring court orders, illegally canceling funding authorized and directed for specific purpose by Congress, illegally creating and collecting tariffs, and illegally putting military into city streets with false claims of “fighting crime”. Trump has renamed the Department of Defense (DOD), the Department of War, and is raging war against Democrat controlled states and cities.
Don’t listen to the news media to understand what happened to America, and why democracy is not working. “We the people must save democracy.

And I proudly wear a canvas bag that says "Jews for Zohran" with a drawing of a bagel, lox, etc, and "New Yorkers deserve the works" on it, put out by Jews for Racial and Economic Justice. I'm so hoping he'll win by double digits. He is my ray of hope in this slipping-towards-fascism country. Go, Zohran!
Zohran gives me hope. I hope and pray that he is elected the mayor of NYC by super supermajority vote, and it jolts the Democratic establishment, the genocide deniers.

I love this speech. I have two comments: Instead of saying "Muslim man", I would suggest "a person who embraces Islam." Personhood, in my view should be first.... Second, there is NO ONE in Congress willing to publicly say they are atheist or that they don't believe in god (there are four Muslims in the House). That is truly a political death sentence. Why is that?
As a special education teacher I adhere to your thoughts about labeling. For example, at a placement meeting of appropriate staff and a parent, I would say to the parent, ".......it appears that Johnny has what we call a learning disability in math, which qualifies him for special help in that area." Rather than: "Your child is learning disabled, etc."
What we never learned in high-school Social Studies or History back in the '50's (and probably in the '60's ---and even now???): Of the nine Forefathers of the constitution: Jefferson, Madison, Paine, Franklin were Deists; John Adams was Unitarian; P. Henry, Hamilton, Gouv. Harris, and John Jay were Christians. So three of the nine were Christians. We were not a Christian nation then and we are not a
Christian nation now. We are a nation of many belief systems--that's why so many early immigrants fled from persecution in their country of origin. Six generations ago, in 1699, George Haworth and his sister fled from England to America because their father was imprisoned for being a Quaker. Why should candidates be identified by their religion at all? And you're right, identifying as an atheist would be an absolute death sentence.
