Both Stephen Colbert and Seth Meyers had me on their late night network TV shows (CBS and NBC, respectively) a number of times during the lockdown of 2020-2021, live from their attic and basement home studios to me in my apartment’s spare bedroom.
Hi Mike; thanks for sharing the simple truth in this beautiful song. It has been said that to find yourself you must lose yourself. You aren't only a drop of water in the ocean; you are the ocean! Our identity is defined by our actions, not our reflection. When you give up possession of your identity, you can still recognize it without owning it. When you do this, pain and suffering leaves us, as it is attached to that which we possess. See you later.
First off Thank You Michael for turning us onto a new and Beautiful song. And I'd love to see a Smother's Brothers show again. My favorite song of all time is what is called the "Hippie Anthem" by Jesse Colin Young and The Youngbloods "Get Together". Give it another listen. Amazing how timeless it is and how much we still need to listen...." You hold the Key to love and fear all in your trembling hand, Just one key unlocks them both, it's there at your command."
Hi Carol, that is also my favorite song, I love that line, just one key unlocks them both, nice to know others appreciate it, give a listen to Wake up everybody by Harold Melvin and the Blue notes or What about me by Quicksilver Messenger Service, makes your heart sing.
I love Mary Chapin Carpenter. Hey Michael if I wanted to send you a letter through snail mail, where would I send it? Thank you doll for all you do, a luta continua, Deny Reynolds
Heart opening ,hope warming .Thank you Micheal , do you know how good it sounds to hear someone singing by heart and not by ego .Now I hear the Irish in you .A country where people gather and sing to mend our broken hearts ,raise each other up or have the craic —usually all three .It’s a voicing of what’s inside us all not a performing at people .I truly bless you Micheal for keeping on ,keeping on …..another attribute of the Irish …” It is not those who can inflict the most but those who can endure the most “ If you look at history you can see it’s true .There is a destiny for sure but it is in none of our destinies to simply give up .We can creat actions everyday that garner hope or sow despair .I thank and honour you for being a Holder of Hope 🙏
The best part of your performance was the poignant sincerity in your voice, Michael. 🙏 We all need to sing…now, more than ever. May I suggest a song from my own playlist for our times? “A Simple Song of Freedom” by Bobby Darin.
Thank you Michael. This was so uplifting and positive and just hit the spot today for me.
I also wanted to write to let you know about a group of us out here that have started a writing campaign to various major news outlets and also to the board of directors at the USPS. We are working to try to get news media to stop bashing Biden night after night. How about they broadcast some positive news once in a while? We also have been writing to the board of directors for the USPS trying to get Dejoy removed. If you would like to learn more you may email grassrootsordemocracy@gmail.com.
Please keep doing what you are doing. There are so many out here that appreciate you.
Yes together we can and together we will - for we must. Let us use the gift of our lives to make this a better world. For the sake of our children and theirs. For the sake of those struggling in poverty. For the sake of the lonely. And for the sake of our brothers and sisters in the natural world - the animals, the plants, the trees.
I can’t believe I never heard this song before! Now I need to listen to it over and over till I know each word by heart!
Again you have soothed my soul! Looking forward to Sunday!

Actually, Mike you can sing as well as many singers out there. You have a folksinger's style of voice. You can carry a tune. It's fine. It really is.
This song is a keeper for its music and for its message. Thank you for including all the words.
One of my all time favorite singers. Love this powerful song. Thank you so much for posting it to your Playlist.
Looking forward to Sunday 🙂
Beautiful, you must be Irish!
