Who Are Your 3 Voting Buddies this Year?

Back at the beginning of August, after we learned we had a new candidate, I suggested that we all commit to joining the campaign to get Kamala Harris elected, and thus send Trump off on a slow boat to China. 

I started putting together a list of small actions we could each do between that moment and the Election. 

One of my first asks was that, to guarantee our victory — and to teach Trump a brutal lesson — it would not be enough for each of us to just promise to vote. In the last election, even though Biden beat Trump by a whopping 7 million ballots, Trump decided to run a four-year scam and a nonstop screaming tirade that he had actually WON and that the election was “stolen” from him. Tens of millions of his followers still believe that to this day! Friggin’ bonkers. 

So, in order to prevent this madness again, we not only have to beat him, as we will, fair and square, we must pummel him this time with such a massive and suffocating POPULAR VOTE TOTAL that there will be no doubt that the vast majority of Americans have clearly spoken: WE WANT KAMALA HARRIS IN THE OVAL OFFICE. Yes, he will suffer (as he sees it) the humiliation of being beaten (badly) by a woman, being soundly defeated by a Black American, being sent off into the land of obscurity by a strong and very smart (“not my type!”) daughter of an Indian immigrant! I know this all sounds a bit cruel to treat the country’s Chief Misogynist, Leading Racist, and Top Shelf Idiot with such a fate, but he asked for it, so here it is. 

The way we pull this off is to pack the polls in the largest turnout ever in an American election. And the way we create that size of a crowd (the one of many sizes Trump is an expert in) is for each of us to vote… AND adopt three other adults who may or may not be thinking of voting — and we make sure they do. We do it together! We identify these 3 people — they can be friends, family members, co-workers, fellow students, parishioners, neighbors, etc. — they can live down the block or across the country. They agree to go voting with you on Election Day, or the four of you go now and do Early Voting together, or you sit with each of them at your desk at work or school, or the lot of you meet in the cafeteria or the local deli and you all fill out your absentee ballots and go mail them or drive them to the nearest election drop box. Make an event out of it! Have a toast, or go grab lunch or dinner. Give your voting group or club a name — “The Freemont Four!” “The Kamala Cray-Crays!” — just have a little fun while helping to save our Democracy! 

The key takeaway is that you have quadrupled your single vote. Think if everyone did this! Think if instead of Trump losing by 7 million, he loses by 28 million!

Whoa! 

Yes, this can happen. Because this is our mantra:

“If I vote alone, we lose. If I vote with 3 others, Good Morning and Welcome, Madam President!”

So today I’m asking you: who are the three people you’re voting with this year? Remember, you can do this virtually, if you’re doing it with friends who live in different states. If you live in the same city, you can do it separately because the four of you might have polling sites that are on opposite sides of town (so you make a plan to get together later). There are no rules to this. The only point is to share this historic moment together — and to make sure no one has forgotten to vote!
