I live in a small rural town in northern Michigan. On the day after the Trump/Bush Supreme Court fulfilled its dystopian destiny by issuing its Handmaid‘s Tale-style “forced birth” decision, hundreds of women and girls who live here packed the street that runs for nearly a mile along Lake Michigan. They brought homemade signs and yelled out to those driving by: “NOT GOING BACK!” It was intense, polite, furious, chaotic and honest.
My producer, Angela Vargos, took her microphone over there and recorded some amazing and overwhelming Midwestern defiance that will sound shocking to the rest of the country (but not to us who live here). In case you missed it when I posted it last Sunday evening, here’s another chance to be moved and uplifted by these fierce, normal, everyday women and girls who are my neighbors.
Give it a listen and you will learn one big lesson: The Supreme Court has cooked its own goose, losing all credibility with the vast majority of Americans of all stripes. Their ruling will not stand — and it simply will not be obeyed. Access to abortion will continue, fuck you very much.
That’s right, haters, misogynists and religious zealots — the joke is on you. You are not going to tell these citizens what to do with their bodies or their lives. Where do you think you are, in a 1950’s episode of Father Knows Best? Get ready to have your metaphorical skulls cracked if you place your hands or your bans on any woman’s reproductive organs.
You think you’re going to have your fake Justices forcibly hold millions of women down and make them birth babies? Are you that whacked? YOU. ARE. DONE. The Revolution has now begun, and come November — Roevember — you’re going to see what it’s like to lose power. The Republican Party has unwittingly dug its political grave. An uprising is underway. The Court of Fools has handed us a gift.
Thank you, Brett Kavanaugh, for bringing the beer.
Hit PLAY and enjoy!

"Not going back": That's what I said years ago after I had an illegal abortion and then Roe v. Wade was passed. I was fortunate to have found (or my former husband did) an underground network at the University we were attending that led us to a legitimate doctor in PA. (Not everyone can do that, obviously.) That would mean, I think, that doctors and midwifes would have to also break the law. Some law enforcement people have said they won't enforce the law; probably not in TX. We have to fight this.

In Palm Beach Gardens, staff with the Urologic Physicians & Surgeons, a part of Urology Group of Florida, said they've seen a 50% increase of men asking about vasectomies.
