Michael, please do not encourage protests in Chicago. I remember how things went south back in 1968, Nixon won and we did not get out of Viet Nam until 1975.

I agree! Let's get Harris into office and then apply the pressure. She is the candidate. A protest now is not going to change that except possibly help Trump. Ack!

I fully expect the dirty tricksters from Trump world to hire protesters to disrupt the convention with a full on demonstration of anti semitic rhetoric. It won't take many to draw the attention of mainstream and social media. The right would like nothing better than to kill the Harris-Walz momentum by turning the convention into a shitshow. I only see a downside to protesting during the convention as MM suggests.

I have to agree that a repeat of 1968 would suck.

Celebration of Freedom, not anger.

The Trumpists will be there to provoke.

This needs to be boring. Boring is good.

Expand full comment

Well, I don't think it should be boring, but we need to show that we are NOT the party of CHAOS.

That we are the party of the future.

That we are the party that will lead the way to reducing and then ending our dependence on fossil fuel.

We are the party that is actually trying to make a better future for the next generation.

Yup. Perhaps boring is not the best word. When things go well, nobody really notices. Bad times are never boring.

In the Future, I don’t want to watch movies about America in 2024. There are already enough troubles around the world to draw tears.

Oh there will be movies about 2024 for sure.

Let's just hope that whoever makes the movies is one of us so that we are not portrayed as the bad guys.

Good advice Mike. Here's hoping the Dems not only win the presidency, but increase their majority in the Senate and get a good majority in the House. If they have enough votes in both houses could they not impeach, convict and remove Judge Thomas? That would send a message to the other two right -wingers on the bench. Too you and all your followers: remember not only your fate but also that of your neighbours to the North will be decided this November 5th.

It was NOT “elder abuse”. To call it that is denying agency to Joe Biden. He chose to do that debate. He chose to continue as the candidate. It was stubbornness on his part. It was also clear that he had allowed himself to be over-prepped.

But Joe is competent and able to finish his term. He has proven it since June 27, including the other day in Pennsylvania.

Frankly, the elder abuse might be on the other side, where the DEI kids refuse to come get grandpa and take him home.

I agree.

It was not elder abuse.

It was campaign malpractice.

Biden was sick

But Biden was not sick and tired of being president.

And he would have made a fine president for 4 more years.

But for better or worse, it wasn't to be.

It is kind of satisfying though to watch Donald Trump grumble about having to run against Kamala.

Looking at the protest page, it seems to be well organized, including having the right permits, port-a-potties and even a kid's playground. My knee-jerk reaction to hearing protests now is, "Oh no - everyone needs to be on-board the happy Harris train" to keep those "undecides" in the Harris camp. Protests spook those people. I'm also concerned for the opportunity of false flaggers who may try to come in and paint a picture of antisemitic rioters. I hope they've planned for those contingencies. Our number 1 goal right now must be to keep Trump out of the White House. I keep thinking how much worse it will be for not just us, but also for Gaza if he gets back in. He won't think about humanitarian aid and will give Netanyahu carte blanche to do what the heck he wants. But I'm trying not to be knee-jerk, but to breathe and trust that it won't be 1968 all over again. Happy thoughts. Happy thoughts...

Wow! People are now afraid to protest. Score a victory for oppressive government. However, I wanted to thank you, Michael, for showing me a way to leave a message for Ms. Harris through an e-message. I have never done such a thing before, and it was exhilarating! I have been more the in the streets, protesting sort of troublemaker, and without our annoying protesters, the government and the media get to totally control the conversation. It is appalling to me that so many people think that protestors should shut up and behave.

Expand full comment

Judith, not afraid to protest! I have been to dozens of protests and marches. It is just the history of Chicago and 1968 that has people on edge when considering a protest at the convention. As others have said if it goes south it could give Trump an advantage.

I wonder if those organizing the protest at the convention are one issue voters? There are too many other issues at stake to give MAGA the opportunity to disrupt the convention. Protest every day from now to the election as far as I am concerned. Just seems counter intuitive to protest at the convention. Sort of shooting yourself in the foot or cutting off your nose to spite your face.

I know it is going to happen. I will keep my fingers crossed that we come out the other side unscathed. Best wishes to you if you are attending. Hopefully the organizers have it well planned.

Michael, with great sincerity I will ask you question that I hope to receive an answer.

First, having a Jewish great uncle who survived the holocaust (the only one, all of his family of 7, and all extended family were murdered), he married a Christian woman and all generations since identify as such. However we are well aware of the anti-Semitic rhetoric that led to the wipeout of his entire family.

Since October 7 brought so much anti-Semitic hate back to the forefront, I’ve thought about things Ive never thought about my entire life as I was raised with my Christmas tree and Easter bunnies.

Everyone that I know of in my family certainly believes in a two states solution, we support the call for a cease-fire, which I can’t imagine anyone wouldn’t like to see and the hostages released. It would be great to have a Kumbaya moment and there’s actual peace in the Middle East. Let’s look at the reality, I’ve never been more frightened in my life, listening to those kids and the hate that’s spewing from their mouths on the college campus’ is not even close to wishing for a cease-fire. And if Hamas gets a cease-fire, what are you going to say if three weeks later they go in and attack Israel again? You can’t be naïve enough to believe that, I certainly don’t know how many but a good portion do not want peace. They want an eradication of the Jewish people.. And the ugly that comes out of some of these protest include violence, trespassing, property damage, not even close to peaceful protesting, which is what our democracy should have and is based upon, Is not what is occurring.

And I can tell you that as a 1/4 Jewish person and my kids even less than that and never identified as being Jewish, I am completely disgusted and frightened by the amount of anti-semitism that has way more to do with hate than wanting a war to stop. I think I can objectively look at it from that point of view. It bothers me that you don’t address that and what is going on in our country that has turned from wanting a cease fire war to hate.

So for my very sweet great uncle, who is the finest man that I know, I stand with Israel.

I got an email this morning from AOC (one of soooo many, many political emails from all over the place), and it says,

“Did you know that over half of all Members of Congress are millionaires? Meanwhile, the median household income is only $70,784. 👈🏽 This is wild.

Many of our lawmakers have no lived experience of working paycheck to paycheck or trying to pay rent working a low-wage job….”

Maybe we should require public access to income tax statements belonging to anyone running for public office. I want to see more teachers and former restaurant workers in decision making roles in all levels of government.

To whom it may concern,

If you really want to stop the corruption, you're going to have to show the American people concrete proof that "their" representatives have sold them out. I have that proof. All you have to do is read it.

My name is Ted Martin. I just finished writing a book about my first hand encounters with a morbidly corrupt federal judicial system. The book is titled: The Illusion of Justice and contains documented, incontrovertible proof of widespread systemic corruption in the District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, the United States Supreme Court, the Administrative Office of United States Courts, the Senate Judiciary Committee, and the U.S. Department of Justice.

The Supreme Court not only ignored two of the most egregious cases of judicial misconduct imaginable (my cases) but also an amicus brief by former Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Richard Posner in which he blows the whistle on rampant corruption in the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

Judge Posner’s amicus brief is posted on the Supreme Court’s website at www.supremecourt.gov and can be accessed by typing in the following case number: Martin v. Living Essentials (Case No. 17-8352)

It will be painfully obvious to anyone who reads my book (or Judges Posner’s amicus brief) that the Supreme Court denies certiorari without even bothering to read the petitions submitted by the citizens of the United States. This obscene betrayal of the public trust is a clear-cut violation of every Justice’s judicial oath and a crime under federal law that is commonly referred to as honest services fraud.

In short, my book proves that the leaders of both the Republican and Democratic parties have been conspiring together to pack the courts with corrupt corporate judges who will never side with the American people. This was abundantly clear when Senator Chuck Schumer and the other Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee repeatedly refused to use irrefutable evidence of judicial misconduct by Amy Coney Barrett (a Republican nominee) at her Supreme Court confirmation hearing.

This bipartisan band of seditious conspirators also refused to address the underlying corruption in clear violation of their oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”

The only difference between the two major political parties is the rhetoric. The special interest groups running this country don’t give a damn which bribe taking stooge you vote for or even if you vote at all. They have already successfully rigged every election by controlling “our” choices.

The leaders of both the Republican and Democratic parties have been caught red-handed conspiring to pack the courts with corrupt judges who will never side with you. If there was ever a reason to be a one issue voter, this is it. Besides, any politician caught lying about their fidelity to the Constitution and laws of the United States is obviously lying about everything—particularly their agenda.

Republicans push the corrupt corporate agenda. Democrats pretend to be opposed. Together, they sell their offices to the highest bidders. They foment war for the military industrial complex, promote racism for the prison industrial complex, refuse to restrict access to assault weapons for the gun manufactures, permit large quantities of toxic cancer causing chemicals to be dumped into our air, land, and water for the chemical manufactures, deny needed medical care to our country’s citizens for the health insurance and pharmaceutical industries, and turn a willful blind eye to the catastrophic effects of global warming for the fossil fuel industries. The list of their greed fueled crimes against humanity goes on and on.

Voting your current elected representatives out of office should be a no brainer. But, to make sure that they are not replaced with another batch of equally corrupt corporate stooges, we’re also going to have to take back both the Republican and Democratic parties and get the money out of politics.

While this may appear to be a daunting task, all we really need is a sound plan. After giving this matter some careful consideration, I have the following proposal: We agree to put aside all of our ideological differences and unite as Americans in support of the Constitution of the United States.

If you read my book, it really won’t be that difficult. You will know who the real enemy is and it certainly isn’t your fellow citizens. We just need to become one issue voters. Ignore their contrived wedge issues, bullshit talking points, and cringe worthy campaign ads. If they are not fighting tooth and nail to get the money out of politics—don’t legitimize them with your vote.

Seriously, if in doubt—throw them out. Besides, any government official who is not forcefully calling for the resignations of the corrupt leaders of their own political party is, by definition, violating their oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”

Whether Republican or Democrat, a treasonous corporate criminal is a treasonous corporate criminal, they serve the same master and nothing is going to change until we get the money out of politics.

*You get the money out of politics by publicly funding elections, banning all campaign contributions, and, in exchange for their broadcasting/operating licenses, requiring news organizations to give every candidate for public office an equal amount of free advertising space.

In the future, I may write a book titled: The Illusion of Journalism. But for now, I’m just going to say that the media is not going to help anyone blow the whistle on their partners in crime. In the past four years, I couldn’t find a single news organization that hadn’t sold us out.

All an honest journalist would have to do is read Judge Posner’s amicus brief to know that the courts are irretrievably corrupt. Reading my book will conclusively show that the courts are corrupt by design.

If you want a government that actually acts in your best interests, I urge you and everyone you know to read my book as soon as possible. You can get a digital copy of my book free of charge at the link below: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_vaMH1riLodzOfQn0kI7ow0RDrPM0NqE/view?usp=sharing
