I'm sorry, although I'm not sure why I'd be apologizing so early in the game, but I'm about to spew my righteous anger here:

Of course it took a woman to take him down! We women are invested with the chromosomes that are instinctively protective, fighting til the last breath, to make sure our issue, our babies, live. Here it is literally our issue--to not be abused! Men and their precious little penises--that's all they want to protect. Look at all the Cialis and Viagra pills that are still being sold, while women are being put back into the cellar as sex slaves. Beautiful, young, helpless, pregnant. Yes, that's how they like them. Makes me sick. And obviously angry.

And all of Trump's fans--they'll never see him as that over-inflated baby in diapers as that incredible artist portrayed him. But he's looking more and more like life imitating the art. Or the artifice. The revenge tastes delicious--for now. We'd better be ready for the backlash, though.

OK, thanks for hearing me out. Now for the caveat: there are some great men around! My husband, for one, who cooks for me and our pooches, and Michael Moore, who is not afraid to speak the truth to all who will listen. Or maybe there is fear there, as I wouldn't know, but that it is overcome for the sake of us all, even those idiotic Trumpers who know not where they're being led.

Dear Marcia, I find your comment thoughtful, balanced and exactly on point. There are some warped women on the right (you know who they are) but overall their movement is “lead” by hate-filled white, mostly middle-aged, men. There are many great men in our camp, as it were, including the great Michael Moore, your husband, Lucian Truscott IV, Glen Kirschner, Kareem Abdul Jabar, Robert Reich and many, many more. I hope better days lie ahead for all of us.....

Expand full comment

It is not "Some" warped women, historically, it is a substantial percentage of the women in our society. Look beyond the most recent emergence of the MAGA folks. Recognize that it is and has always been a patriarchy in our country. It took seventy years of Women's Suffrage to get the vote, and it barely made it through. The Equal Rights Amendment was introduced for ratification in '72 and has never gotten the approval of the 38 states...thank you Phylis Schafly, a woman, not warped, just a conservative a-hole.

It is confounding that there isn't more political unity amongst women, but there isn't.

But Michael is right that Carroll stayed the course and finally nabbed the SOB.

No apology required. We women should stop being apologetic for speaking out, we have the power,so we need to wield it in the form of truth.

The best news of the year, with more to come I predict.

Thank you Micheal for all your years of being the voice of reason, I cried listening to your episode on your friend many years ago and her abortion. The MAGA republicans want to enslave American women and it’s got to be stopped.

Sending love

Marcia, I love what E. Jean Carroll did, with her bravery, but I disagree with your sexist comments against most men, in which you are excepting only your husband, Michael Moore and a few others. You’re going ‘way, ‘way too far. They deserve better. I object to what you say in the strongest possible terms. Women are NOT innately superior, chromosomes and all. E. Jean Carroll’s heroism is beautiful. I know that there’s such a thing as unfairness to women--and to Black people, too--and Asian people and Brown people. But we can’t use that against most members of any group.

You are right. I was generalizing, and angry. Two of my many faults. All of us are flawed, but we humans run the gamut from the most evil to really quite wonderful. Most of us seem to be swimming around in the middle of that continuum. But watching what's happening in the world, especially due to this country's actions, is disturbing to me. I'm sorry that my words upset you.

I "liked" you comment because I recognized your righteous anger that sometimes causes us to overreact. The scumbags give the majority of men who are kind and nurturers a bad name.

I understand Marcia. Many times it is hard to hold back. Donald is such a text book example of a misogynist! People who protect him and his kind are the problem! He should be forced to apologize to all of us and our nation, period. This jury has brought him to a little bit of justice.

Expand full comment

In this moment, bringing this terribly over rated man to justice, women need to vent. I also have men that I respect and love but misogyny is real and will get women assaulted and even killed. If women find their voice and unify then we could have a different country. Being silent and apologetic has not been working! Keep it real Marcia!

My ex-boyfriend voted for the bastard. A guy I went to high school with voted for him, and mocked a woman--to ME!--who expressed concerns about thing after he was elected. A former teen idol I USED to think was hot (Kirk Cameron) supported the son of a bitch.

Results: ex-boyfriend is out of my life; the high school classmate's phone number is no longer on my cell phone; and I refuse to watch ANYTHING with Kirk Cameron ever again.

Well said. Especially appreciate the call out to Merrick Garland, et al. Please excoriate CNN for giving this traitor and rapist DJT free air time. Urge a boycott if CNN doen't cancel it (Trump's objective case pronoun). Maybe their ratings will tank.

Agree with you to NOT watch CNN. Consumers and money are the only way to combat the media that profits from Donald and his twisted performance of an American Traitor. We should all be worried about the power of his lies. He was our President. That's our reality. Could be again and imagine the destruction of democracy. Like a weapon of war causing damage, the country will be unrecognizable. I say NO to that!

I haven't watched it in years, and definitely won't be watching now!

CNN may be doing us all a favor because, as you saw in his deposition, baby boy is his own worst enemy. No one can show him to be as big of a joke as he does himself!

Expand full comment

I question whether CNN is covering the news or making an in-kind contribution to the Trump campaign. They created the event, are moderating, and are allowing only Republicans and Independents to participate. That is free advertising and misleading because it is not a "town hall meeting." A town hall meeting is open to everyone. Going forward, I will consider CNN to be a major donor to a candidate who is guilty of sexual assault by a jury of his peers, and is awaiting justice concerning treason and other crimes he is accused of. The program should have a disclaimer that "the following is a paid advertisement." CNN is now an unethical, opportunistic corporation.

People must speak up to keep media accountable and legitimate. Maybe there is too much profit in Donald's performance as entertainment. The power of propaganda. I think it would be best not to give him a platform. But we have freedom of speech. As long as he doesn't call for violence AGAIN! CNN should be held accountable if that happens.

Expand full comment

There are FTC regulations to protect people from deceptive infomercials, such as, "Contains or omits information that is likely to mislead consumers." Because only Republicans and Independents are in the audience, viewers could be mislead, and the way Trump lies on the fly, unless there is a taped delay to fact check, it will allow Trump to get away with more lies.

Even though I signed petitions to ask CNN to drop this idea, I actually think Trump will disgrace himself, as usual, and it won't constitute positive publicity.

I vaguely remember the boldness, insightfulness, irreverence, cleverness, and warmth of E. Jean Carroll's Elle column. I do remember loving it. And I thank her for her courage and insistence now, in this crucial moment in our country. And thank you so much, Michael, for honoring E. Jean.

It's called accountability. I hope tRump continues to be held accountable for the crimes he has committed. Let's not forget that there was heroism by the judge and jury in simply discharging their constitutional duties.

Thank you but realize she has the privilege and support others do not to go after their abuser. Or a person with his power that so many other women and men live with the trauma of abuse and rape do not have.

She is the first to bring him to justice. He will make millions off this for being a sexual predator, this is how broken and immoral his radical authoritarian following is, the more depraved, the more they salivate and drool over cruelty and abuse from him and the monsters like him.

Thanks, Mike. Right. SHE’s a star! I thank her. I’m glad she went to all this trouble. She’d already been through a lot, keeping quiet all those years. Her name will go down in history. I understand why she waited. But it takes a woman, right?

Now, I didn’t hear all that the jury heard, but I believe she was raped, too. I don’t know how the jury could separate it all out. Trump owes millions on this case alone. He’ll probably appeal--and lose again. That time, I hope he gets it even worse, if that’s possible.

He’s not my type.

I’m afraid he won’t pay anything or go to jail, but by rights he should. Maybe, if the bluebirds of justice align on the telephone wires, he will.
