I, Michael Moore, hereby officially name you BLOCK CAPTAIN for the street (or apartment floor) you live on.

Your job for these next 12 days will be to deliver your block or your building’s floor to the Blue Tsunami that is electing President Kamala Harris.

It’s easy! Identify the “friendlies” amongst your neighbors (you probably already know some of them), go knock on their doors and remind them to vote. Give them the days and location of your neighborhood’s Early Voting spot or the nearest Early Voting drop box, as well as where the neighborhood polling place is for voting in person on ELECTION DAY. And remember, if you’re in any of these THREE SWING STATES — MICHIGAN, WISCONSIN and NEVADA — you can vote on ELECTION DAY even if you’re not registered to vote! You can register right there where you vote — ON ELECTION DAY!

• Here’s what you’ve got to do, it will require just a little bit of work, maybe three clicks instead of one, but go to this polling place locator page at Vote.org, click on your state, and then enter the necessary information. This will tell you where your polling place is… and since you’re the block captain, this will more than likely be the same polling place for everyone on your block. You can also share this link with your neighbors so they can be sure: https://www.vote.org/polling-place-locator/.

Now, as a newly minted Block Captain, you are also fully empowered to appoint Co- or Deputy Block Captains from your neighborhood to assist you in these efforts and to add other streets and neighborhoods to this campaign. Take the kids. Make it a family thing! We win when we create a massive turnout.

Start today. Do it this weekend. Do it all next week. Do it next weekend! Trust me, it’s not a lot of work. It’s just your block! It’s just your floor! It’s just your neighbors! You’ll meet cool people in the neighborhood, you’ll make new friends, you’ll go for a walk. There is no downside. There are only upsides! And those are the best sides!

To quote the powerful speech of the very powerful Michelle Obama at this year’s convention:

“We cannot afford for anyone — anyone! — in America to sit on their hands and wait to be called. Don’t complain if no one from the campaign has specifically reached out to you to ask you for your support. There is simply no time for that kind of foolishness. You know what you need to do.

So, consider this to be your official ask: Michelle Obama is asking you—no, I’m telling y’all—to do something.” 

And I, Michael Moore, not quite Michelle Obama but every bit as midwestern, am joining Ms. Obama in her call. While I have no official authority within the Democratic Party, Michelle is right. We cannot wait around for someone to ask us to do something. In order to win this, we just have to friggin do it. Take charge of our own destiny, our own future on November 5th. We’ve all been around the Democratic Party long enough to know that if we are just waiting for them to make our victory happen, that might be a long time coming. We are out of time. We had 49 years for the Democrats to pass legislation to make Roe v. Wade the law of the land. Kamala Harris has made this priority #1. It will get done. But first we must elect her and a Democratic House and Senate. Do not leave this job up to the “Democrats” — you need to be you!

That’s why I am hereby specifically reaching out to you and granting each and every one of you the official Democratic Party title of “BLOCK CAPTAIN.”

You now have all the powers this office holds, and you are duty-bound to fulfill them. Go knock on your neighbors’ doors and get out this vote. Do something! And do it now.
