Let's not hype up this debate too much. All we'll do is set ourselves up for disappointment if the debate does not go as well as we think it might. I am confident, VP Kamala will handle herself well. She needs to imagine herself back in the courtroom cross examining Von Shitzenpants like the felon and sexual predator he is. She needs to call out each and every lie The Con tells. This will be time consuming but must be done. Von Shitzenpants will call her mean and nasty, just as he did with the black female journalist. He will try to distract attention away from the real issues and sow chaos. This won't work for him, this time. Kamala must not be drawn into the chaos. She must remain focused and take the time to make sure the electorate knows her policies. Von Shitzenpants will not be able to handle a strong, tough, intelligent woman and hopefully get flustered and well, you know, soil his pants! :)

I think they should avoid split screens as well, so we don’t have to watch Trumpolini make snotty faces while Kamala is speaking.

Or look at him at all. Yuck. 🤮

Don't count on that. The media wants this to be a showdown. False equivalencies are good for the bottom-line because they attract viewers. Someone made the point that the reason why the media gives Trump a free ride because he is a known quantity and what he says and does is no longer newsworthy no matter how outrageous. His outrageous behavior and rants that would put any other candidate for public out of business have become commonplace and boring and no longer attract viewers. So the media focuses on Harris, even now, an unknown to as much as 28% of the "most likely voters" who claim they do not have enough information about her to make up their minds. I cannot understand this as she has been front and center in the news for the past two or three months. It both disgusts and frightens me that so many of these "likely voters" are so out of touch or have such limited critical thinking.

May I leave my recipe for homemade popcorrn? Yes! You can do this at home!

Why popcorn? First of all, your guests/buddies might be a bit anxious. There's nothing like chomping to absorb that tension. And popcorn is the chompiest and most fun and sharable! (I have a genetic marker so any alcoholic drink makes me feel sic. So--popcorn!

Use a regular steel-clad pot (non nonstick pots! You'll be eating the coating!) Use high heat and pour in olive oil to generously cover the bottom. Add three kernels of white popcorn. Wait patiently and watchfully for them to explode . You can guard yourself with the pot lid. After they pop quickly add the rest of the popcorn waiting in the measuring cup and shake the pot to distribute evenly over the bottom. I think maybe a cup? Depending on how large your pot is. The kernels shouldn't stack on top of eachother. They should make an even cover. Then shake the pot (use oven mitts!). Put the lid on and lift the pot and shake again. Keep lifting, shaking, taking the lid off to let the steam escape when resting on the flame, and repeat. At times keep the lid on while the pot is resting on the flame. Heat those little kermels up! The kernels popping will pick up speed. Keep up those three movements. When the popping slows and there is a three second pause between pops, turn the flame off and lift the lid. Actually, when the pot becomes nearly full you can lift the lid as you don't want the steam making the kernels hard. You want crunch, not frustration.

When it's done I just add some salt. Distribute in bowls for your guests and add a touch more salt. Simply salt and the olive oil are my fave flavorings. Some of you might want to get fancy. The fancy is going to be the debate. Have fun! And if you have some burnt kernels at the bottom of the pan, or some of the kernels haven't popped, hey, it's a learning curve. Be patient with yourselves! And have fun.

I have not decided if I am going to watch the debates. I am conflicted. I hate debates because they are simply beauty contests. Everyone waits for either candidate to screw up. In the last Presidential debate, both Biden and Trump screwed up badly, but Biden's implosion was much more shocking, so he gets the prize. Mika on Morning Joe when asked about the debates, felt as I do. She said there are so many unknowns. She was very skeptical that they will go well for Harris. One big issue for her was the quality of the questions posed by the moderators. We already know that Trump will lie or do or say anything to get himself elected. He has no moral compass. If the moderators do not press him just on the horrible things he said this weekend, then it will fall on Harris to make her case that Trump is unfit, that he represents a failed past and a bleak future and then focus on what she hopes to accomplish in her term as President for all Americans. But if Trump is no held to the fire and gets a free ride and is allowed to spout his lies without challenge, then is will be difficult in Harris's short soundbites (two minutes I think) to make her case. She is a skilled debater, being the first woman on the Howard University's debating team and a skilled prosecutor and has so far not made any mistakes on the campaign trail and run not only a flawless campaign, but has come up with some very interesting and innovative ideas on how to stimulate the economy, help small businesses and the middle class. Al Sharpton, had a long list of things that Harris needed to do and was more optimistic. The way he laid things out she could win big, despite the blustering and serial lying of Trump. What strikes me is the rants this weekend are more dangerous and outrageous than we have seen before. He is trippling down on violently going after his enemies if elected, and threatening another insurrection if he does not get elected. What happens tommorrow may define the way the media covers the rest of this race. The media corporate beancounters want it to be as controversial as possible to engage viewers to keep advertising revenues coming in. It ultimately may come down to the integrity of the mediators of the debate. Do they realize that democracy and freedom may depend on their willingness to buck the instructions from above or to dig deep down and rise to the challenge. There must be tremendous pressure from media management to tow the line and not allow Harris to run away with the debate. My fantasy is that Harris will get Trump so riled up that he will leave the debating stage. Not likely, but one never knows. Still cannot decide whether to sit out the debate and find out from my wife if it is worth watching or simply wait until it is over to decide to watch the rerun on utube. Everyone is predicting that Harris will wipe the floor with Trump. In a normal world, she would wipe the floor with him, but this is not a normal world.

I can't stand all the "pre-game" analysis from the talking heads on television. "She needs to do this or he'll do that", blah, blah, blah. They treat this like the run-up to the Super Bowl. They did it with Biden too, claiming that Joe would get under Trump's skin. Then Biden comes on stage like a deer in the headlights. The moderators would ask Trump a question, which he would not answer as he threw barbs at Biden. Then the post-game talking heads proclaimed that Biden was too old, cognitively impaired and on and on. I hope the moderators will not let Trump avoid answering questions, but this isn't a real debate or a courtroom. I fail to understand how the media let's Trump slide when most of the stuff he says sounds like he's been sniffing glue. Remember in 2016 when he slinked around behind Hillary as she tried to make her points? He treats these events like a WWE match and the media goes right along with it.

OPTIONS FOR YOU TO HELP SWING STATES ELECT HARRIS

Hello. If you would like to work with a non-profit or other groups that want to elect Harris and are not funded by the Democratic Party, I created the list below and sent it out to friends and family all over the country. I hope this list is helpful to you as well.

I welcome you to copy and share this list with others.

I am going to post this list each time Michael sends out one of his missives, adding to the list whenever I learn of more options to share.

Please make me and everyone else aware of any other groups/organizations that have campaigns or mobilization efforts going to prevent Trump from getting elected by posting the information as a comment to my post. Thank you.

POSTCARDS, PHONEBANKS, TEXTS, VOTER REGISTRATION, DONATIONS

Experts who study these things have seen that such simple actions as personal postcards, phone calls, or texts to specifically identified voters can and do make a difference. The organizations below are either the experts or are groups that partner with the experts. Some of these organizations promote who to vote for, while others just encourage infrequent voters to vote, knowing that the people they contact typically vote Democratic. All of these groups can benefit from your time and/or your donations (some of which can be tax-deductible).

The ENVIRONMENTAL VOTER PROJECT identifies millions of non-voting environmentalists and turns them into consistent voters. I have done postcards and phonebanks with them.

https://www.faircount.org/

THE CIVICS CENTER organizes high school voter registration. A huge event they do is High School Voter Registration Week, which will be Sept. 23-27, 2024. They can use volunteer help with that and other events.

We have a watch party set up in my neighborhood. At my house. Dinner , and then we’ll get comfy and see now this debate goes. We did the same for the last one…and at the end we just sat silently, looked around at one another and someone croaked. “He’s toast. We’re screwed “. Let’s hope that this one ends with a champagne toast and “Trump is screwed”. We all have a bit of “debate willies” after the Trump-Biden debate. Taking nothing for granted, but very, very hopeful that the prosecutor prevails tomorrow night.

^^^ In my bubble Jill Stein seems like a total hack and really can't do the math. I thought she was OK a few years ago but now I realize she knows very little about actionable policy that could remotely operate in the real world. I fear that too many people would be duped by a candidate that cannot add or subtract or do basic mathematics for a green future that has zero basis in reality. A path to nowhere and wrecked budget.

Hi

The watch party is a great idea

But back to Israel and Gazza don’t you realize that Hamas wants thousands of thousands of prisoners released before he will make any deal to quit the war. Hamas knew exactly what Israel’s retaliation would be when they attacked. I am no fan of Netanyahu, but please you are antagonizing Harris voters carrying on that Israel. Please remember that they used the billions of dollars they got when they became a free country separated from Israel back in 2008 to build tunnels and buy weapons and not for the good of their people.

I want to congratulate VP Kamala on a solid debate performance. She had Von Shitzenpants on the defensive all night. She baited him on he bit.

The debate between Republican candidate, Donald Trump and Democrat candidate, VP Kamala Harris, provided a stark contrast between the two candidates. The Republican candidate used his usual tactics of multiple lies, insults, fear-mongering, interruption and refusing to answer direct questions from the moderator.

By contrast, Kamala Harris, gave detailed, factual answers to the questions posed by the moderators, all the while, correcting the lies and defending herself from the insults coming from Trump. Harris offered hope for the future, support for the middle class with her Opportunity plan and a chance to transition our nation’s leadership to a new generation and turn the page on 9 years of chaos, lies, failed promises, lawlessness and restore rule of law.

A fact check revealed Trump delivered MORE than 30 false claims as he did in his debate with President Biden vs 1 minor false claim for VP Harris. Not surprising, his M.O. is if you repeat a lie often enough, people will believe it. This has worn thin with most, reasoned American people.

The most sensational claim was he claimed immigrants are eating our dogs and cats. Yes, he said that! He also claimed that women are executing babies after being born. The Choice is clear! Let's turn the page on this Looney and move forward.
