How do I get to be one of Mike's Twitter All-Stars?
It's easy: just add #mmts to tweets you want me to see, and start following @mmallstars. We'll follow you back, and now through the end of January my staff and I will read through your tweets and chose three winners. If you want us to see some of your past tweets too, put them in your favorites folder and send @mmallstars a direct message about it.
At least one of the winners will be 21 years old or under, so if you are, be sure to add that to your twitter bio. (Note to sneaky old people: we will be checking up on you, so don't even try it.)
What do the winners get?
Twitter stardom, I hope. I'll start following you, regularly retweet you to my followers, and tell them they should be following you too. My goal is to get three crazy, funny weirdos 20,000 followers each.
Who's eligible?
Anybody anywhere. You don't even have to have used Twitter before. Is your dad hilarious when he complains about cutbacks at the community college where he teaches algebra? Is your 15-year-old cousin obsessed with getting rid of the Senate because it's an affront to American democracy? Tell them to start tweeting right now and they might be picked. On the other hand, feel free to enter even if you've been using twitter for years and already have 10,000 followers.
Do I have to be in the U.S.?
No! I'd love to find someone Armenian, Burmese, Cameroonian, Danish, English, Finnish, German, Holland-ish, etc. You just have to write in American, because we're dumb and don't understand your language.
Who are you looking for?
People who are funny and trying to make the world better. Those are the only guidelines. You can tweet constantly about how the new health care bill is affecting your family and how the law could be improved. Or how you and your friends in high school in Phoenix are trying to trying to get the school board to outlaw the tasering of kids. Or how much you love the Washington Redskins (even though that is very sad) and are trying to get them to change their creepy name. Or how you and your niece are taking over the Democratic party in Payette County, Idaho. Or if you have the energy, all of the above.
What happens after I win and get 20,000 followers?
That's up to you. Are you going to run for the school board? Get a column in the local newspaper? Start a cult? Your choice. But if you have the knack for it, we'd also like to talk to you about blogging on this site and making videos about what you're up to. My staff and I will be available to give you tips.
Is this offer available in West Virginia and Guam?
Yes.
