With absentee ballots out to registered voters in San Mateo County, two people have qualified as write-in candidates in the June 6 primary election.
The filing period began on April 10 and closed Tuesday, with one candidate qualifying in the 12th Congressional District race and one in the race for county coroner.
Harland Harrison, a Belmont resident and software engineer, qualified as the lone Libertarian Party candidate in the 12th Congressional District race. Harrison also ran in 2004.
His platform includes withdrawing from Iraq, repealing the Patriot Act, trying all officials who have permitted torture, ending the war on drugs, balancing the budget and impeaching President George Bush, according to his campaign.
Stacie Nevares qualified as a write-in candidate for county coroner, a race in which incumbent Robert Foucrault was previously unopposed.
Employed at the coroner's office for more than two years, Nevares says that if elected, she would prioritize care of the deceased, assist the living with support groups, and increase the use of public speakers to educate children about unsafe behaviors.
She would also boost research efforts aimed at determining causes of death more quickly, according to her candidate's statement.
