After Victor Kittila was arrested for displaying his sign, hundreds of outraged people came the following Monday to join the peace vigil, including myself and sister Raging Grannies of Metro Detroit. We attended a Ferndale City Council meeting that evening, and sang them this song - to the tune of "Home on the Range."
Oh give us a break
From rules that are fake
Designed to keep us in line
The CO2 you exhale
Poisons others so frail
Must-be-a law! - breathing out is a crime!
Laws enforced to suppress
America's freedoms so blessed
Are treason's gate
To-a dread po-lice state
With America's death as its fate...
And, we loudly proclaimed, "LET FREEDOM HONK!"
I read a statement to Council critical of the police decision to enforce an anti-honk law so as to suppress people's civil rights. My court date is August 8th at 1:00.
