Democratic National Committee Chairwoman declines to hear everyday people
Occupy the Caucus extended an invitation to Democratic National Committee Chairwoman, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz to come to their campaign headquarters and listen to the concerns of average Americans. She responded she would be out of town tomorrow and would have to decline the invitation. A small group of about 20 people went to the Renaissance Des Moines Savery Hotel to meet with her tonight, before she leaves town. And in what has become a common theme this week, they were turned away again. The Democrats and Republicans have shown this week that they are more interested in the concerns of Wall Street and other corporations than in hearing the voices of the people who elected them.
Brandon Griffis, a member of Occupy Des Moines, said, “This was complete political gamesmanship. We offered to host the Representative for a civil discussion. They delayed five hours to tell us that she was not in town tomorrow, and held a press conference to do so. They could have told us anytime that she wasn’t available tomorrow and we could have rescheduled. The Democrats, like the Republicans, apparently have no interest in hearing the concerns of the 99%.” He added, “We’re happy to converse civilly with those that will listen. We only raise our voices to those that shut us out of the political process.”
