Dear friends,
So we had this story for our show, "The Awful Truth," on Dick Cheney and what a genius he was to go from conducting the Gulf War to becoming the wealthy CEO of a company that made millions in government contracts -- in part, rebuilding the oil infrastructure of Kuwait after the war.
Our only problem, back in March when our staff was in pre-production on the show, was which week will we air this story -- this week's celebration of the upcoming Republican Convention, or next week's special on the 10th anniversary of Saddam's "visit" to Kuwait.
Nah, we said, let's just skip it. Who remembers Dick Cheney?
That was March.
So, on tomorrow night's (Wednesday, July 26) show there will be no story on the Texas oil buddy whom Daddy G told Junior G to put on his ticket. (Note to the lazy, fawning media: Quit the blather about Cheney being some kind of war hero for Desert Storm. The American public either believes the war was wrong and fought only to protect the oil and reinstall the dictators of Kuwait, or the rest of the voters believe Daddy G was a wimp for not going all the way to Baghdad and kicking Saddam's ass outta there. Either way, the war is considered a loss -- and that's why Bush I was not re-elected. By picking Cheney, Junior has only helped to insure his own humiliating defeat).
Instead, on this week's show (on Bravo 10pm ET/PT), we salute the near-extinct Republican Party of America (it now goes by the name of "The Democratic Party"). I take a trip inside Congress and quiz those Congressmen who introduced a bill to allow the 10 Commandments on every classroom wall in America. I ask them to try and name various Commandments and then present them with some of my favorite Bible quotes to hang on THEIR walls. We actually got to a half-dozen Congressmen before the police escorted us out in what we shall call a "separation of Mike and state."
Next, we celebrate the wedding next month of Newt Gingrich to his third wife, a former Capitol Hill aide. Newt and his bride-to-be are registered at Macy's -- but we thought there were a few gifts that they overlooked on their list. So, you, our viewers, will be able to log onto www.newtloot.com after 10pm Wednesday night to get him that "special present."
Also, knowing that George W is such an opponent of affirmative action, we thought that we, too, would take our stand against what we feel is the most hideous form of this kind of discrimination -- affirmative action for George W. Bush, Jr.! On this week's show, we make an appeal to anyone who was passed over in 1964 for admittance to Yale University -- when George W. got in with his C average -- to contact us in our efforts to file a class action suit against the university and Junior (who was obviously given preferential treatment just because his name was Bush!)
As for the Cheney piece... well, I'm sure with so many qualified journalists out there, someone will check into Halliburton, Inc. and see how they profited from the Gulf War.
Right?
Yours,
Michael Moore

P.S. The reaction to last week's letter regarding Ralph Nader has been incredible. I will have more to say on this in the next week.
