Legislative Delegation In Cuba For Trade Talks

5 Lawmakers Have Bgun An Unannounced Trip To Promote Farm Purchases

(CBS4) HAVANA While the US government continues an investigation into filmmaker Michael Moore over a movie-making trip to Cuba, it appears five US lawmakers have begun their own trip to the island to talk about doing business with Cuba.

Moore is being investigated for allegedly violating the US trade embargo against Cuba by spending money in that country during the filming of his film “Sicko”, but the delegation headed by US Representative Rosa De Lauro of Connecticut wants to strike up a business deal to sell $150 million in agriculture goods to the communist country.

The unannounced visit, which involves 4 other lawmakers, was organized by the anti-embargo organization Center for Democracy in Washington, DC

The delegation plans to meet with at least one top Cuban official before returning to the United States.

The lawmakers' visit coincided with a trade fair on the communist-run island bringing together 114 food and agricultural companies from 22 US states.

Florida is not among the states participating.
