Last week when Donald Trump announced that he was not going to run for President of The United States, I had assumed that the Trump Circus was over. That we could strike the tents and put the performing animals back in their cages. Well, now that he’s got Celebrity Apprentice out of the way; we might be in store for a repeat performance of the Most Insane Show On Earth.
With Mike Huckabee opting out of a potential run under the Republican banner, which he may have had a decent shot by the way, there are no strong potential contenders to the presidency. So says The Donald. At this point, he sees nobody that can ride the GOP’s elephant straight to the White House. So he has deemed himself as the only real contender and may have to retract his statements about not running.
In 2004, the Republican party grilled John Kerry on anything and everything and pigeonholed him as a flip-flopper. That tactic won George W. Bush reelection. Now in 2011, we have Donald Trump. Who politically presents himself like someone with the same assuredness of a man who wears suspenders and a belt at the same time. I sure hope that he doesn’t think that him jumping in at the last minute for shock value will garner him any votes. If the Republican party had any integrity whatsoever, not one delegate at next year’s convention should put their backing behind him. How can you trust a man that doesn’t even know whether he wants to be president or not?
I wasn’t particularly surprised when this announcement that he may run after all came less than twenty four hours after the finale of Celebrity Apprentice. Whenever I would watch that show I would have horrible visions of Gary Busey and Meat Loaf as cabinet members. But alas, now that the show’s season has come to an end, The Donald has possibly tied up any contractual loose ends with NBC; freeing him for any other ventures. Like running the country. Now say by some horrific accounting mistake (and lord knows that’s never happened)he became President of The United States. What happens a few months in if he decides to flip flop on whether he wants to keep the job? He acts like this whole running for president scenario is a game. When he should fully realize that his expertise is in getting John Rich and Marlee Matlin to design soda cans and run fancy casinos. He should realize by now, that everyone sees him running as a joke. If he doesn’t, I pray he comes to the realization that our country is not some toy a wealthy casino owner can go and play with. If he does not realize any of this, when he does kick off his candidacy; that the voters treat this like what it has been the whole time. A big circus act designed to let more people know he’s Donald Trump. Don’t worry Donald, we already know. We don’t really care.
