So the good folks over at townhall.com are at it again. This time, it’s Steve Chapman discussing something he refers to as “Obama’s Fatal Attraction To War.” All because Obama sent in air attacks against Gadhafi forces to help reinforce United Nations Resolutions. Calling him a hypocrite for sanctioning the attacks in Libya while back in 2002 he was dead set against the Iraq War; Chapman took him to task for his part in this whole operation.
Now, I have said in previous columns and I will continue to say this; personally I do not feel the United States should have a role in the whole Libya mess. But for someone to say like Chapman did in the article that what Obama is doing is worse than the way Bush handed starting the Iraq War, I have to take as a personal insult. For several reasons. One, Obama hasn’t lied to anyone about anything Gadhafi is doing. Bush told us everything about Saddam Hussein to get us to support the war short of saying he was going to come into all our houses and kick our dogs. Second of all, we’ve got United Nations backing on this one. Everyone knows that what Gadhafi is doing is wrong. Even if this isn’t something that Obama feels the United States should be doing, it’s something that we have to do. Even though I think it’s too much, it’s still not nearly the length that we could theoretically go and that Bush actually went to in Iraq. It’s the difference between helping a friend move and helping a friend build a house. The whole word is taking equal share in this one, and we are just doing our part. Lastly, you don’t see Obama looking like he’s taking any joy in what he has to do even by just sending the air strikes over. Look at Bush again. He was practically dancing through that whole thing and then foolishly had them roll out the Mission Accomplished banner well before it was ever due or deserved. He reveled in doing something his daddy couldn’t. That and he lied about the yellow cake uranium. That’s what makes Bush a hypocrite, not Obama. He’s just a guy trying to do his job.
All a guy like Steve Chapman is doing in this article is standing up for his friends. Which is ok I guess. That’s his right. But when you do it at the expense of calling someone a warmonger and a hypocrite it becomes a bit much. Not one person is calling this a war except the folks at CNN. If you want to be mad at someone Steve, be mad at them. The news networks are just horribly misinforming you. And by proxy, they are making you look like an idiot for throwing tomatoes at the wrong man.
