Alright folks, here is the column that I was going to present to you yesterday that was preempted by the East Coast Earthquake. By the way, those of you on the West Coast that are insistently teasing us saying, “you babies, it’s just a little 5.8 earthquake; we get them every Thursday at 2 PM,” be quiet. For many of us it was our first. You don’t normally expect to be sitting in Philadelphia and all of a sudden have your house shake like it’s in the hand of an excited kindergartner.
But as it was, I had sat down around the time the earthquake hit to opine over the things that are going in Libya. As it sits right now, nobody knows where Gadhafi is; and anywhere from two to three of his sons have been arrested. After forty something years of oppression and tyrannical rule I am sure that they are all being held in a peaceful manner and being treated quite fairly. Actually, the rebels are probably giving them roughly the same treatment that some of them may have gotten under the Gadhafi regime. Perhaps the fruit of Col Gadhafi’s loins should have paid a little more attention to what happened to the Hussein brothers. The whole world by now knows what kind of little bastards the Gadhafi boys are; just like their father. I’m generally a peace loving man by my nature, but I’ve got to say this. They all deserve exactly what’s coming to them.
Which leads me to the fighting. The rebels have made their way as of this time into Gadhafi’s compound. Must have taken a lot of them to lift the flap on that tent. But Gadhafi is nowhere to be found. There are reports saying he has fled somehow, and others saying that he is alive and well somewhere in Tripoli. “Well” might be a bit of a stretch. He’s probably hiding in a spider hole hoping the rebels forget about this whole mess and move on with their lives. Well, you take forty years of being beaten down upon and stir it up the way it has this year; these are not people that are willing to compromise. And rightfully so. They should pretty much get whatever they want in this, they’ve certainly paid the price.
But what about Gadhafi? The man that promised us all that he would not go down without a fight and would fight to the last man has disappeared. But we still get reports that he is making announcements via telephone to keep the fighting. Hey Colonel, they’ve taken over your house! It’s time to give it up. There is no good solution for you anymore apart from putting a white flag on a stick and waving it as hard as you can. Look at some of the news coverage for example. You see people celebrating in the streets of Tripoli waving the flag of the newly recognized rebel government. These are a lot of people, that by the way are backed by the United States, France and every country in NATO. You are not in control anymore. The end is near. So Colonel Gadhafi, just crawl out of the hole and give up. At least for once you’ll be acting towards the will of your people.
