I've been mulling over in my head for the past couple of days, what if anything I would have to contribute to the discourse about the absolutely horrible events that took place this past Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary. The fact is, I really don't know what to say. I don't have the clout to really change opinions on a large scale. Nor do I have very much to say in terms of expert analysis. All I can really do is say how I feel.
Like many others, I am sick to my stomach. I don't own a gun, but I have to say the following as it pertains to gun control. When I was a young man, growing up in the town of Oscoda, Michigan I was surrounded by deer hunters. Everywhere you went in the fall, there was somebody with a gun going off in the woods to hunt. Near where I lived, there was one of those places where the hunters would go and get their deer cleaned and whatnot. So I would on occassion see a deer hide that was being prepped for some kidn of use. Never once did I see a deer with fifteen holes in it. To say that you need a contraption that can do that in a span of a couple of seconds is unncessessary.
I also have to point out that the average person I know doesn't have more than two hands. Why are there some people that need a whole garage full of guns. Face it, you want to hold the Second Amendment that's fine. Nothing I can really do about that. However, if you want to cling to it, stop maligning it for your own purposes. So while you may have the right to bear arms, a great many do so irresponsibly. And for the NRA, who have championed the cause of the personal ownership of everything that can put a hole in someone's body short of a tactical nuke, to stay completely silent during this terrible tragedy is a damn joke. Those goons, and that's about the nicest way I can refer to them at this point, should at the very least say something instead of taking down their Facebook as if they don't want to have the finger pointed at them without them finally having some sort of an argument.
Twenty kids. Any one of them could have been a doctor that cured cancer. Could have been anything they wanted to be. If guns laws weren't so damn lax because of groups like the NRA, then maybe this could have been prevented somehow. You want to know the real reason why the National Rifle Association hasn't so much as made a sound about this? It takes a long time to wipe this kind of blood off of your hands. Anyone that says gun control laws have nothing to do with what happened are just full of it.
