Senate Must Pass S.1334 for 9/11 Workers
House passed HR 847, now it's Harry Reid's turn to step up to the plate
Let me begin by saying thank you to ALL who have fought valiantly and diligently in this fight to get our elected officials to do the right thing. A fight that should have never been. Passage of the James Zadroga 9/11 Health & Compensation Act should be a no-brainer. Many people have fought beside us in our struggle for those of us who risked everything for our country on September 11th, 2001. First of all, thank you to Mr. Michael Moore who brought the fight to the silver screen in "Sicko," a movie that shows how health care is broken in the U.S.A. while other countries deliver it fairly, efficiently and free of charge. He had to take three 9/11 responders to Cuba to get them medical care. One of those responders, Reggie Cervantes, I went to EMT school with. The other two Billy Maher and John Graham are friends of mine. "Sicko" kick-started the fight.
At the same time, 9/11 responder John Feal (NYS Recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor for Civilians Above & Beyond) had started the FealGood Foundation, a foundation that has advocated and assisted thousands of 9/11 first-responders -- and has made a difference, even in my life! I was honored to sit on the Board of Directors. Unfortunately I had to resign when my health took a drastic change for the worse. I am now bed-confined and take 39 different medications each day. I have 17 diagnoses and have been hospitalized 18 times since 9/11. I was part of EMS for 17 years. I lost my Home in 2007 because our elected officials delayed Workers' Compensation for hundreds if not thousands of 9/11 workers. I now need surgery, and my Insurance carrier has denied the request of multiple doctors. No surprise there. So Now I have to wait as my health deteriorates.
You may ask, "how can I help the heroes of 9/11?" It is simple. Contact every senator. 99% of the Democrats are on our side. We need Republican senators to get on board and pass S.1334 instead of joining their friends who want to filibuster my life away.
I sincerely thank all of you who have supported us. We all appreciate your compassion and caring. To Michael Moore, what can I say? You have done us a great justice with your continued fight on our behalf. You are a true American patriot who cares about us and our fellow citizens of the United States of America.
