To be perfectly honest with my readers here, I do not know as much about the situation in Syria as much as I did about the uprisings of other nations. During the Arab Spring, you saw many nations begin fighting for their independence. Some like Libya are still fighting for it and they will surely continue to fight until Gadhafi is removed from power.
I wish we lived in a world where people had the common sense to remove a leader from power when you saw them committing acts of violence against their own people. The leadership structure of Syria needs to be removed as soon as possible, because it is clear now that they are not doing themselves or their people any good. In the past day or so a report came in that in an effort to curb the demonstrators and people protesting, the Syrian government authorized cutting power to a hospital. Because of this, several premature babies died. Their bodies needed the help from those machines and they had to die because the leadership of Syria didn’t like what the demonstrators were saying.
And what exactly was it they were saying? That they wanted the same rights as everyone else. That they didn’t want to live in fear of their government taking them out of their homes if they didn’t agree with the leadership. So they did what they were supposed to do. They rose up and took to the streets saying they wanted their rights. So the people in power cut the electricity to a hospital. It’s one thing to throw rocks, or even shoot at people. At least they have the ability to pick the rocks back up and throw them back. These were babies that were fighting for their lives to begin with. Defenseless, innocent children. And because some world leader didn’t get his way he has to not only make life miserable for his own people, but bring an end to the lives of little children who weren’t guilty of anything.
The United Nations tends to stand back and issue sanctions in situations like this. They embargo and they condemn. Well what good is condemning someone that obviously doesn’t care what the world thinks? That would stoop so low to get their way that they would cut off life saving equipment to defenseless babies? Sometimes, I think the United Nations should just say the hell with sanctions and remove the leadership from power. Because they obviously no longer care about their own people and I don’t think anyone in Syria would bat an eye if their so called leadership was inconvenienced in this way.
