A 10th Mountain Division soldier is dead of non-combat related wounds in Iraq, the military announced Monday.
Spc. Brushaun X. Anderson, 20, of Columbus, Ga., died on New Year's Day in Baghdad. The circumstances of the incident are under investigation.
An initial press release from the Department of Defense said Spc. Anderson was attacked by an unknown assailant. A corrected release issued later omitted the reference to any assailant.
Maj. Fred Harrell of Fort Drum Public Affairs said the initial reference to an assailant was incorrect.
Spc. Anderson was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry, 2nd Brigade Combat Team.
He joined the Army in October, 2007 and arrived at Fort Drum in May 2008.
Spc. Anderson is survived by his mother and father.
