Anti-War Protest Marches Through Oakland

PITTSBURGH -- In what has become an annual event, anti-war protestors marched through Oakland Saturday.

Marchers said the protest will continue until their words and actions are heard.

"This is a march that is going to continue every year until there is no war," said Dianne Santoriello, whose son, Neil, was killed in Iraq.

She said she and her husband, also named Neil, spend much of their time fighting to bring the troops home.

"So that's all we want. We're for the soldiers, but we want them home, and we want them taken care of. That's it. That's the goal," Neil Santoriello said.

The group marched down Fifth Avenue and briefly stopped in front of a military recruiting center.

The march wound its way to Flagstaff Hill, where an interfaith service was held for the more than 4,000 U.S. troops killed and 40,000 wounded.

Organizers said they hope to not only end the war but also offer support to the soldiers who return.

"We tend to fully support them -- to come back, to be well, to be taken care of by other Americans," organizer Casey Capitolo said.
