When will we change our course?

Gordon Soderberg, Veteran for Peace, writes:

To America, We Veterans who have served you honorably in war and national disaster. We have some questions for you...

We have gone to war, we have seen the costs of war and we are here to say that this president's war on terror, and response to natural disaster is all a war on you. It is illegal, immoral and wrong.

When will we change our course?

The president is at war with his deepest fears. He has crippled our ability to respond to real threats of natural disaster and left us more vulnerable to acts of aggression by those that see his international intent as a threat to their lives, economies and cultures.

When will we change our course?

We cannot fight a tactical war on his fears. We must combat his fears and ignorance by waging peace! We must be willing to share our cultures, ideas, grievances with those that he has made into our enemies. Otherwise our fate will be sealed as another failed empire lead by a fearful leadership.

When will we change our course?

We must be willing to except the responsibility for what our elected leaders have done in our name. And have to courage to remove those in office who have conspired against all Americans and our constitution. By failing to protect and defend America's most precious resource the people and their BILL OF RIGHTS.

When will we change our course?

"Freedom" IS NOT FREE. It must be protected from treasonous intent by all Americans. Your vote must be counted and you must vote for it to count. We are voting with our feet, our money, and our collective will to change our course as a nation in order to save it from the totalitarian intention of this president, his staff and other politicians and corporations that sustain them.

When will we change our course?

We have video from our Katrina relief effort. These tapes show how the president's incompetence in selecting key officials in FEMA, Red Cross and his reduction of funds for these and other agencies has cost untold American lives in Mississippi, Louisiana. This weekend we will face the continuing cost of his version leadership in Texas.

When will we change our course?

The president has only a political response to these national disasters. Selecting Karl Rove to head the rebuilding efforts will only magnify the cost for all. This is not how America responds to national disasters. She responds with thoughtful caring action, not political talk. She packs her bags and heads toward those in need. She does not blame local leaders and lie to the press about who should leave and who can stay. She asks them what they need. She does not stop people from coming to help, she encourages people to do what they can to assist in the relief effort. Most of all she would never put a gun to the head of a poor person and pull the trigger. But that is what this president has done. By using military force to herd poor American evacuees into razor wired INTERMENT CAMPS, where the only exit is through military recruitment.

When will we change our course?

Since Sept, 2nd, Veterans For Peace has been on the front lines of the relief effort in LA. We started by serving the poorest communities at the Reverend Atkins Park, across the street from the locked Red Cross warehouse. Later that day, we were invited by a Covington police officer to the Red Cross Shelter in the Pine View Middle School. We had the only generator and they had a boy with cystic fibrosis who needed electricity to power his medical equipment. We moved into the parking lot and set up a kitchen and served the first hot meal the evacuees and Red Cross volunteers had since the hurricane began. That night the shelter was visited by the regional representatives of the Red Cross and FEMA, Our president's appointees tried to obstruct our efforts to help feed the American people in the hardest hit areas of Mississippi and Louisiana by making the exact same statements that the police of Crawford, Texas made the first day we stood with Cindy Sheehan in the ditch outside of the president's ranch. "You are not real Veterans," they said.

We will not change our course, we will not surrender and we will not give in, or give up! We are calling for the impeachment of the president and his entire staff, we are calling on all Americans to defend the constitution. By holding our elected officials and their political appointees accountable for the course they have chosen for our nation.

We are inviting every American to come to Washington D.C. and demand accountability and redress of grievances. We invite you to stay here until you are given the access to the halls of Congress, the Senate and The White House for the purposes of changing the course of our country. We invite every American who disagrees with the president, FEMA and the Red Cross who forced Americans at gun point into buses and taken to Razor Wired internment camps across the country. Get to Washington D.C. We will together call for our government to Bring them All Home Now.

Bring the troops home, let them heal. Let the American people out of the interment camps and support them in rebuilding their homes, communities, lives and cultures.

The course we choose, will determine our destination. Will we like where it has lead us? Will we be the ones to determine the course our future? Or will we let ourselves be lead to our own destruction?

The choice is still ours. I beg you America Choose wisely!
