Satire, really great satire, works when you take the piss out of those in power or stand up to the conventional wisdom when you know it's wrong. Why does Tim Allen need to be taken down? Or Robert Downey, Jr.? And then to use stale Betty Ford and Scientology jokes? So incredibly original! I loved watching the pundits of Pseudo Hipville the next day talking about how "edgy" he was. Seriously? Yeah, he took a poke at Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie! While they were in the room! Wow. You sure showed them, Ricky.
Boring.
His best line of the night was the last one he spoke as the show's credits were starting to roll: "I want to thank God for making me an atheist." That's daring. And funny. Too bad the previous three hours were jokes about Hugh Hefner getting a blow job. Ricky -- stop spending 3 hours a day in the gym looking in the mirror and thinking any of us give a rat's ass about you.
(For those of you who have no idea who this guy is, rent his British TV show "The Office" [the original]. Friggin' genius.)
