THE HYSTERICALLY FUNNY CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED HIT ABOUT CORPORATE AMERICA IN THE 90 'S MAKES ITS HOME VIDEO DEBUT!

THE BIG ONE, a hilarious cross-country road movie that plumbs the depths of corporate America, makes its home video debut October 13, from Miramax Home Entertainment. A wickedly funny comedy starring America's favorite "every-man" avenger Michael Moore ("Roger and Me, "TV's 'TV Nation'"), THE BIG ONE follows Moore's subversive odyssey in search of an answer to this question: at a time when corporations are posting record profits, why are so many Americans still in danger of losing their jobs?

Searching America's heartland, armed only with a camera, a wickedly funny sense of humor and sympathy for the American worker, Moore embarks on a one-man campaign to persuade Fortune 500 companies to reconsider their downsizing decisions. At last, Moore comes upon one high- profile CEO willing to talk.... but the meeting doesn't go exactly the way either had planned!

While on a book tour to promote his best-selling book Downsize This! Random Threats From an Unarmed American, Moore encountered a different picture of America from the one painted by large U.S. corporations which boasted that profits were up, unemployment was down and the stock market was booming. "Every city I went to, people would tell me stories," says Moore. "Stories about how their company just posted a record profit and they lost their job; about how they had to work two jobs and still couldn't make enough to get by. Everyone was afraid they'd be downsized next. It was clear that even though things were better for corporate America, the 'good-times' were not trickling down to the rest of the country."

As a result, Moore turned his book tour into an underground mission to find one CEO who could explain the situation. As Moore's camera crew invaded more and more corporate headquarters, the book tour's publicists and "media escorts" scrambled to make sure he stayed out of jail and on schedule. On the final day of the tour, Moore received word while on a radio talk-show that Phil Knight, Chairman of Nike and one of Moore's proclaimed "corporate crooks" wanted to talk to him - cameras allowed.

Moore concludes, "I set out to make a funny, entertaining and hopefully enlightening movie about what I saw on my trip across America. Ultimately I hope it will give people a chance to have a good cathartic laugh, and know that they're not alone, that however good things are for corporations, most Americans are just like them... I hope people leave the theaters laughing and shaking their fists, not in despair but in outrage. A democracy is, after all, only as good as its participants. If it becomes a spectator sport, it's all over."
