Subject: Troops in Iraq
Mike,
I realize that you’re a very busy person. However, I hope you could find
it in your way and/or point me in a direction to find answers to what I am about
to tell you.
Saturday night I was at a local Pub having dinner at the bar, normal for a
56 year old single fat guy, when a fellow sat down at the bar. He seemed to
have been a regular for the Bartender asked him when he was leaving for Iraq.
This young man told the bartender he was leaving in the morning with the rest
of his Reserve Unit and another Reserve unit from Ohio. Seems these two units
are all Logistic people, OK, Truck drivers. In his conversation with the Bartender
he stated that this was his second time there. As the conversation went on I
listened, being an ex-serviceman myself (Navy). I was getting ready to leave
and asked this military man how things were going over there. Of course he said
it sucked, and was turning into another military disaster like Nam. I agreed
and some how I was drawn into his conversation.
What disturbed me most was when I asked him what weapons he carried as a truck
driver. He told me the new M-16, model blah blah blah, stuff never made sense
to me even when I was in. I asked him what kind of side arm they gave him and
his fellow drivers. He explained, "Sir, Reservists are not issued side
arms or flack vests as there was not enough money to outfit all the Reservists,
only Active Personnel". I was appalled to say the least.
I want to find out if this is true. If it is, how do I make a big stink about
it? Bush is a jerk agreed, but I can't believe he is this big an Asshole not
providing protection and arms for our troops to fight HIS WAR!
Thanks for all your time and consideration,
_________
PS: 'Dude, Where is my country' is a great book, it has moved me much like
the book 'America what went wrong', written about the Reagan Years.
