SOLDIER LETTERS

Subject: Veteran's Day Demonstration

Dear Mr. Moore,

I am a Army reservist on active duty training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Like you, I am very upset with the state of the nation and my commander and thief, I mean chief. Well, my old high school is having a Veteran's Day celebration on Monday, November 10 and I have been invited. I am afraid that the majority of the crowd is pro war because the nature of my town. Although I do support our troops I think it would be important to show my small town of 6000 that "peace is patriotic." I would like to stand at the entrance with my class A Army uniform and hold a sign that says such.

I'm afraid that if confronted by one of the locals I would not be able to argue my point effectively because of the nature of the situation and my humble demeanor. This is where you come in. I was wondering if you could perhaps donate some of your books or other literature for me to handout at the event. I have read "Stupid White Men" and am working on getting a copy of your latest book and I firmly believe in your message. I think having some of your literature with me would help open some eyes and would also give the citizens of Sullivan, MO something to read other than Glamour and TV Guide. Thank you for your time and best of luck fighting injustices in the future!

Yours,
PFC ___________

Dear David,
A couple weeks ago I helped draw blood for a SRP (Soldier Readiness Program) for troops that are being deployed. The troops were from a variety of different jobs including artillery and aviation. However, they had been brought to Ft. Leonard Wood to be forced through a five week program to make them Military Police, a program that is normally 8-12 weeks long for people that enlist into that MOS (job). These soldiers never signed up for this in the beginning and I don't think it is right taking them from home to force them into doing something they were never even contracted to do. Just another example of the chaos of our times.

God speed,
SPC __________
